What happens when you stop focusing on everything your husband needs to change and start allowing God to transform you?
In this episode of The Wife Who Prays Podcast, we continue our Becoming the Proverbs 31 Wife series with Proverbs 31:15:
“She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household...” — Proverbs 31:15
This verse teaches us about being intentional, prepared, and faithful with what God has entrusted to us. But it also gives us an opportunity to look at something deeper:
Are we putting God first in our lives and marriages?
If you're married to an unsaved husband, walking through a difficult marriage, or simply struggling to know how to become the wife God has called you to be, this episode is for you.
I'll also share part of my own testimony and how I began seeing changes in my marriage when I stopped focusing so much on what my husband needed to change and started allowing God to work on me.
That doesn't mean everything was my fault, and it doesn't mean we can change our husbands by becoming "perfect wives." Our husbands are responsible for their own choices.
But we can surrender our hearts to God.
And when God changes our hearts, our responses, attitudes, words, and actions can begin to change too.
• What Proverbs 31:15 teaches us about being an intentional wife.
• Why putting God first is essential in a healthy marriage.
• How loving God first can help you love your husband better.
• What to do when your husband is unsaved or difficult.
• Why you cannot change your husband's heart—but God can.
• How God began changing my own marriage when I started living more intentionally as a godly wife.
• Why being a godly wife does not mean being perfect.
• How to care for your home without losing yourself.
• Why wives need to care for themselves spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
• How to respond differently when your husband makes difficult choices.
• Why biblical love does not mean accepting abuse or living in fear.
Proverbs 31:15
Matthew 6:33
Matthew 22:37-39
Colossians 3:23
Before you focus on your husband, your children, your home, or everything that needs to be done, give God the first moments of your day.
Pray:
“Lord, this day belongs to You. Show me how to become the woman You have called me to be. Change my heart, strengthen my faith, and help me love my husband with wisdom, grace, and truth.”
Then choose one intentional act of kindness toward your husband and one healthy thing for yourself each day.
And at the end of the week, ask yourself:
“What changed in me when I put God first?”
You cannot control your husband's choices.
You cannot save your husband.
You cannot force him to follow Jesus.
But you can surrender yourself to God.
You can become the woman He created you to be.
You can pray.
You can grow.
You can choose wisdom.
You can choose kindness.
And you can trust God with the things you cannot control.
Don't wait for your marriage to become perfect before you allow God to work in you.
Let Him start right where you are.
⚠️ And remember: being a godly wife does not mean accepting physical abuse, living in fear, or enabling destructive behavior. Biblical love includes wisdom, truth, boundaries, and seeking help when necessary.
