What to expect in the Yoga In Honduras episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast

Sol Nazzar is a radiant yoga teacher hailing from Honduras. Sol's name, meaning "sun" in Spanish, perfectly captures the radiance she brings to her dynamic and transformative yoga classes. With 20 years of teaching experience under her belt, Sol's journey has led her to integrate various yoga styles, including Ashtanga, Iyengar, Kundalini, Sivananda, Jivamukti, and Vinyasa into her teaching. But it doesn't stop there; she infuses her classes with her deep love for capoeira, dance, body expression, and theater, creating a unique and mesmerizing experience for her students.

What sets Sol apart is her deep-rooted connection to yoga, which she inherited from her family. Growing up, her father's life-changing encounter with an Indian guru led him to embrace yoga wholeheartedly. Her mother, while pregnant with Sol, also practiced yoga, creating an aura of positivity and mindfulness that surrounded her family from the very beginning. Their Sunday ritual of exploring different yoga asanas together laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for yoga and a love for sharing its profound benefits with others.

In the backdrop of Honduras, where yoga was once met with skepticism and misconceptions, Sol's perseverance and passion have contributed to its blossoming acceptance. Her family's studio, Yoga's Garden, has been a guiding light, offering a sanctuary where students discover the true depth of yoga beyond physical postures. The studio's nurturing environment has attracted practitioners from diverse backgrounds, fostering growth in not only asana but also meditation and energy work.

Sol Nazzar is a beacon of light in the yoga world, spreading positivity, love, and inspiration wherever she goes.

Welcome to Episode #93 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! My conversation with Max Pranić, a yoga teacher from Montenegro, was fascinating as we discussed the the distinction between real yoga and what is often referred to as yoga. Max comments on the global yoga supermarket, and how yoga can be treated now like a hamburger. I’m sure this conversation is one that will give you a lot of food for thought. If you’re looking to tune into a podcast episode that is all about yoga in Montenegro then this is the conversation for you.

For the skimmers - What’s in the yoga in Montenegro episode?

        • Being invested in the authenticity and integrity of yoga practice
        • The distinction between real yoga and what is often referred to as yoga
        • The global yoga supermarket and the treatment of yoga as a product
        • Why is ananda (bliss) an integral part of a yoga practice?
        • Yoga in the west can be violent towards bodies and minds
        • The importance of ahimsa (non-violence) in yoga

        • Tell me more about Max Pranić - Prawn-isch

Max Pranić has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years in various international settings, with his home base in the beautiful Adriatic country of Montenegro. He conducts regular classes and private training sessions at Yogaboka studio in Kotor Bay, PMYC Sports Club in Porto Montenegro, Tivat, and Chenot Espace Spa at One & Only, Portonovi.

Max's teaching approach is rooted in slow and gentle Hatha yoga, incorporating elements of Kriya and Raja yoga. His classes are suitable for practitioners of all levels, including beginners. As students progress, Max gradually introduces various pranayamas, dharanas, kriyas, mudras, bandhas, and other tools of a more subtle yoga practice. He also teaches traditional Indian Tantra yoga.

What to expect in the Yoga In Montenegro episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast

Max Pranić, an experienced yoga teacher from Montenegro, shares his profound journey with yoga and its authentic practice. He begins by clarifying that yoga, for him, is a sadana, a practice that involves the connection of body, mind, and breath. Before fully diving into traditional Indian yoga, Max explored various other practices like karate, kung fu, and zen meditation. However, it was yoga led him on a path of teaching and practicing yoga for over 20 years.

Max's insight into yoga came when he studied with authentic Indian teachers during his years spent in India. His experiences studying with accomplished Indian masters enriched his understanding of yoga's true essence. He particularly emphasizes the significance of having a guru or spiritual teacher, which is more than just a technical or physical instructor. True yoga goes beyond the mat; it is a way of life, as all of life is yoga.

The discussion delves into the widespread popularity of yoga in the West. Max expresses gratitude for yoga's accessibility to people worldwide but also highlights some of the challenges. He notes that while yoga has become prevalent, it has also been diluted and misunderstood— which is especially notable with Tantra Yoga. People often miss the profound depths that the practice offers.

Max emphasizes that yoga is not about achieving something but about unlocking the hidden potentials within oneself. It involves a non-violent approach (ahimsa) towards oneself and others. Yoga helps individuals integrate their physical, mental, and spiritual aspects, leading to a state of bliss (Ananda) and inner connection.

Tell me more about Dennis Kia

Dennis began practicing yoga in 2018, and after almost seven months, he attended a yoga teachers training program introduced by the Active City Development Program (ACDP) under the British Wheel of Yoga Model. It was there that he obtained his teaching certificate and started teaching yoga. Since then, Dennis has taught yoga mainly in Port Moresby city around residential areas and public gyms, as he does not own a studio yet. He has been teaching Haha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, and yin yoga for almost five years since 2018.

Teaching yoga in Papua New Guinea comes with challenges as many people perceive yoga as a religious practice conflicting with their Christian beliefs. However, Dennis perseveres and continues to teach, especially to foreigners and expatriates who are familiar with and interested in yoga. Despite the difficulties, he remains determined and carries out awareness campaigns.

Yoga has had a profound impact on Dennis's life. It has not only improved his health, both physically and mentally, but it has also provided him with financial stability. As a yoga teacher, he earns enough to support his family and himself. Yoga has transformed his career path, shifting him from a laboratory analyst to a yoga teacher—a transition he is proud of and believes to be his true calling and purpose in life.

Dennis describes Papua New Guinea as a beautiful country with diverse cultures, over 800 languages, and various traditions. While the country is still developing, its people are friendly, and rugby league is a popular sport.

Overall, Dennis's story highlights the transformative power of yoga and his determination to overcome barriers to bring yoga to others in Papua New Guinea.

What to expect in the Yoga In Kosovo episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast

Step into the vibrant world of yoga in Kosovo with Rina and Agnesa Mehmeti, the dynamic duo behind Urban Yoga in Pristina. In this episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast, they share their incredible journey of opening a yoga studio in a country that was relatively unfamiliar with yoga just a few years ago.

Rina and Agnesa's story begins with skepticism from friends and colleagues who couldn't fathom leaving their stable jobs for the path of yoga. But their passion for helping others and the word-of-mouth recommendations soon started to spread, creating a buzz around their studio. Local media coverage further introduced yoga to the community, dispelling misconceptions that yoga was simply sitting in a cross-legged position. The pandemic played a surprising role in boosting the popularity of yoga, turning it into a lifestyle choice that benefits both mental health and physical well-being.

Beyond their studio's success, Rina and Agnesa offer insights into the beautiful country of Kosovo. They describe it as a small nation with stunning mountains and a young population. They highlight the warmth and hospitality of the people, making visitors feel like part of a family. They also touch upon the challenging times Kosovo faced during the war, recounting their personal experiences as refugees and the difficulties of living in a post-war environment. However, they express optimism for the future, with positive changes occurring in the country and the upcoming visa liberalization that will allow easier travel within Europe.

For Rina and Agnesa, yoga is not just a physical practice but a transformative experience. It has helped them find balance, navigate anxiety, and be fully present in every moment. They view yoga as a powerful tool for healing and personal growth, instilling a sense of love, connection, and gratitude for life.
