God gave us marriage to show us who He is and how He relates to us. His reputation is on the line, and so He took the initiative in His Word to give us the big picture of how each spouse is to reflect Him and His ways. Most people have high hopes for marriage. And many are disappointed with what they see. What if our view of marriage isn’t grand enough? What if God gave us marriage for something far greater than we are experiencing. Marriage is God’s idea. He gave us marriage to show us who He is and how He relates to us. If we embrace this, then marriage will take its rightful place.

This shape also represents the journey of Jesus Christ from heaven to earth, and back to eternity again. Christmas does not start with a baby in a manger. It begins with the second person of the Trinity in eternity past. Jesus’ incarnation (God becoming flesh) shows how much he gave up to love us. This truth forms the basis for Paul’s exhortation to look out for the interests of other people. We also discover the parabola can be a pattern for our own lives, and was the experience of many people in scripture. As we work through the text we will see how this great parabola impacts our lives today.

Life is filled with uncertainties. Most of us struggle with that. We want to know what will happen with many good things like our jobs, our marriages, our friendships, or our health.
