The U.S. is leading a formation of or revamping of existing alliances as the Chinese and North Korean threats in the region have increased. The apparent flaw in the alliance structures is they view the Chinese and North Korean threats as mutually exclusive as a matter of political expedience to form alliances in the western Pacific when there is strategic motivation of China and North Korea to present a security threat that is mutually inclusive.
