President Trump is engaged in the highest-stakes diplomacy since Ronald Reagan walked away from talks with Mikhail Gorbachev in Reykjavik, Iceland three decades ago. Yesterday, Mr. Trump commendably made clear that he, too, is prepared to abort his summit with North Korea’s dictator, Kim Jong-un.

His decision will be informed by the intelligence collected and analyzed under the leadership of CIA Director Mike Pompeo – some of it obtained during his secret visit with Kim over Easter.

Senate Democrats decry both North Korea’s nuclear threat and Mr. Trump’s bellicosity in countering it. So why would they jeopardize his diplomatic alternative by putting partisanship before national interests and blocking Mr. Pompeo’s confirmation as Secretary of State? That’s a particularly untenable stance for the 10 Democratic senators from states Trump carried who voted just last year to confirm Mr. Pompeo to his CIA job.
