Hayes Carll is one of our best living singer-songwriters. He's deep, funny, soulful and has plenty to say. He has a killer band. His records are interesting and stand the test of time. And of course, he is at his best live onstage. Make sure you pick up all his albums in a physical form - https://hayescarll.com/ - and make sure you go see Hayes Carll live sooner than later.
I'm on the road - broadcasting from a coffee house in New Orleans - headed out to play Pascagoula Mississippi tonight - I just played Birmingham and Baton Rouge - after Pascagoula I'll be at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta - Oct 8!
Come see me play while you're at it!
My Kickstarter was a total success. Thanks backers!
The new album is sounding great - artwork coming together and manufacturing of Vinyl, CDs, tees, hats and posters forthcoming - followed by a release date and tour dates!
Great days just around the corner.
With much gratitude and optimism...coffeed up in NOLA...I had a shrimp poboy from Bear's (which is next to Gennaro's in Metaire...).
All is well talk soon!

It is with great love that I post this podcast. I wrote with Jimmy Buffett over the last 20 years. We recorded 7 albums together. When we wrote "Bubbles Up", I knew he was dealing with illness. I knew it was a good song. I had no idea Jimmy was in his last months on this earth. Nor did I know that the song would be released and Paul McCartney would be talking about how much he loved the song, especially Jimmy's soulful vocal. So here's to Bubba. The Navigator. The Storyteller. We will never forget the way you lit up a room with that twinkle in your eye, that smile, that poet's eye for a line.
My gratitude to the Coral Reefer Band - producers/band leaders Michael Utley and Mac McAnally, especially - for making me so welcome (an honorary Coral Reefer!) - for allowing my ideas and songs into this mix of brilliant musicians. And the Jimmy Buffett team and crew could not have been kinder and treated my songs and writing with more respect and fairness. It should be said that I was treated with absolute fairness when it came to business - a rare and very beautiful thing.
Note: the music in this podcast is from my original iPhone and ProTools work tapes and demos I shared with Jimmy in the days before Christmas 2022, and in the early days of 2023. Jimmy created his own demos and shared them with me. I do not own nor will I share his demos. I thought it would be appropriate to share these raw, intimate recordings to illustrate the process: Inspiration, Concept, Work, Editing, Rewriting - all leading to the final product, which you can now hear streaming, and pre-order the physical LP and CD through Jimmy's website and Sun Records.
I still can't believe I got to play on a song ("My Gummie Just Kicked In") with Paul McCartney on bass! And he likes our song. Unbelievable.
I am purely a creative person: a writer, musician, producer, artist. I thrive in a creative situation, preferably involving improvisation and open minds. I will dearly miss Jimmy Buffett and his big wide open heart.

Jaimee Harris has a great new album out called Boomerang Town. Go on over to https://www.jaimeeharris.com/ and get yourself a physical copy! Or head on over to your local independent record store, like https://www.grimeys.com/ and get a copy there.
Jaimee's music has been praised by NPR, The Austin Chronicle, No Depression, as well as great artists like Iris Dement and Gretchen Peters. I can't emphasize more that Jaimee Harris is an artist to keep up with!
Here, she tells us all about what she's been working on, what she's listening to, watching, reading...and she gives us some great advice.
Later in the show, I pay tribute to the late great Robbie Robertson - who is most well known for his work with The Band - but who also created film soundtracks and made some amazing solo albums. Robbie Robertson's songs and playing, particularly with The Band, will live on.
Enjoy.

Eilen Jewell is an American Singer Songwriter. I had the pleasure of working on her latest album, Get Behind the Wheel. It's a great record, about transcending loss. It also rocks. This record will move you. I love it, and I'm so glad to have Eilen Jewell as my guest on this 10th Super Service Podcast. She talks about her life as a work in progress, about Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, San Diego's The Schizophonics, Mel Gibson's Conspiracy Theory (and Lauryn HIll's song in that film's soundtrack). Go get her latest, Get Behind the Wheel: https://www.eilenjewell.com/
Keep listening and I'll tell you all about that time I opened for REM in early 1982, just before they recorded their breakthrough album Murmur!

I'll admit, I'm swamped! I have been working on my upcoming album, as well as finishing production projects, playing on recording sessions and traveling - big thanks to Winnipeg Folk Festival for such a warm welcome - plus, we got to see Rufus Wainwright with Lucy and Loudon! - Headed out to Calgary Folk Festival this weekend! And Songwriting With Soldiers is about get going again. And we're moving our youngest to her first post-college home. And we're visiting our eldest at her first house! So yeah...crazy good stuff. But the show - and the podcast - must go on, so I'm sharing my very first "That Time I" rock n roll memoir podcast from my Patreon page. This is a good rock n roll story. I have many. But this goes back to my R&R beginnings, in the mid-to-late 1970s in Mobile, Alabama. That would make it a Southern Rock Story. So tune up that Les Paul, grow out that mustache, put on your flares, crank up the Peavey and take a ride with me in the way back machine - which in this case has to be a Trans Am. That Time I...Played the biker party!
