Angela Rayner has referred herself to the government’s ethics adviser after admitting to underpaying tax on her second home, casting serious doubt on her future.
Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary, gave a tearful interview to Sky News this lunchtime in which she said she had considered resigning following days of ever-mounting questions over an unpaid £40,000 stamp duty bill on her second home in Hove.
In this episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley look at whether Rayner could or should survive, as well as just how much damage the whole sorry saga inflicts on Keir Starmer’s already badly-listing government.
They also pour over this lunchtime’s Prime Minister’s Questions, where Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch was widely criticised for choosing to focus on rising government borrowing costs rather than the story of the moment.
