On New Year’s Eve, the Bay Area experienced an intense winter storm that brought about 5.5 inches of rain to San Francisco, making it one of the wettest days in the city’s history.

This week, as we start off the new year and look ahead to 2023, California is in the middle of yet another winter storm, forming from an intense pattern called a “bomb cyclone.” But despite the overwhelming amount of water we are experiencing this week, it’s difficult to tell if the storm will actually have an impact on the ongoing drought or replenish the state’s water reservoirs.
