In November's Elephant in the Room, Casey Kopcho, a member of Salem's Climate Action Task Force, talks about the task force goals and how their work will fit into the city's "Our Salem" urban planning process, and how residents can get involved.

Alejandra Moreno came from Venezuela and understands, first hand, how democracy can slip away.  She pulled from her personal experience and other advocates of nonviolence to develop a set of strategies - both for individuals and groups - to demand every vote be counted and to defend democracy.  She points out that the strategies can be used for fighting racism.  The program is called "speak up now" and the "tool kit" can be found at sun2020.org.

Tom Hastings, professor of conflict resolution at Portland State University, talks about nonviolence as an effective tool for making social change and defending our democracy because violence drives many supporters away from activism.  He talks about the Oregon Peace Institute, PeaceVoice, and the Portland Peace Team and its operations during mass gatherings.

Brian Nicholas, Marion County Public Works Director, updates listeners on how people affected by the Beachie Creek fire in the Santiam Canyon are moving forward with clean up and rebuilding. Nicholas touched on EPA clean up efforts, how affected home/property owners can access services, and some legislative proposals to help reduce costs and expedite rebuilding.
