  • Fuga Cromatica [Lynar B 2]

    D-B Mus.ms. Lynar B 2 f.24v-25r

    Fuga Cromatico / ex D.la.sol.re.

After Pieter Dirksen's edition of anonymous pieces found in Lynar B 2 1991, two of the 17 pieces in this manuscript remained unpublished. However, in 2024, this manuscript was scanned and made available online, so these two pieces could be examined. One piece is a hypnotizing and repetitive hexachord fantasy in which the hexachord repeatedly appears in the tonic or dominant in long notes. The other is this charming chromatic fugue.

  • Anonymous - Ricercar [Lowell Mason Codex]

    US-NH LM 5056 (Music Deposit 4) (Lowell Mason/E.B. Codex)

    p.61-63
    Ricercar

This manuscript which was discovered by organ musicologists around the 1930s contains many beloved organ works including the Toccata in D Minor by Dietrich Buxtehude (BuxWV 155), and among pieces by composers including Nicolaus Strungk, Peter Heidorn, Martin Radeck, Johann Adam Krieger, Johannes Kuhnau, and one only known as "B", it also contains two anonymous ricercars. One has been found to have been composed by Johann Jacob Froberger; the other remains unaccounted for. This anonymous ricercar was copied two times in different places in the manuscript, both times in the same corrupted form that is performed here.

  • Präludium secundi toni [D-B Ms. Lynar B 3]

    D-B Ms. Lynar B 3

    f.14v-15r/no.16
Praludium / secundi Toni / Auf 2 Clavir / und pedale.

This piece, which is not based on any chorale or magnificat but is still written for two manuals with ornamented melody, is an example of how plain polyphonic pieces (such as the präludia in this manuscript) can be embellished using diminutions. Compare this with the präludium by David Äbel.
