We are excited to announce our Speakers Series for 2021 and 2022! This series began in October, and our upcoming speaker is Rev. Dr. Paul Wallace, who will be joining us on Nov. 6th at 4:30pm, to share his lecture, "An Ash Heap With a View: Science, Religion, and the Strangest Book in the Bible." In this podcast, our pastor Art talks to Paul about his life and the intersection of science and religion, and they begin to explore the ways in which the two might not be so antithetical to one another after all! We hope you'll listen in to this delightful conversation, and then join us in November as we host Dr. Wallace in just a couple of weeks!

Dr. Wallace is a teacher, pastor, astrophysicist, writer, and speaker. He teaches physics and astronomy at Agnes Scott College in  Decatur, Georgia, and serves as Pastor for Adult Education at First Baptist Church of Decatur. He is the author of Love and Quasars: An  Astrophysicist Reconciles Faith and Science and Stars Beneath Us: Finding God in the Evolving Cosmos.

Dr. Wallace will also lead us in a STAR GAZING PARTY the evening of  Nov. 6th at 7pm in our East Courtyard, weather permitting. We have lined  up telescopes from our congregation members, so we're excited to see  what he can point out to us in the skies! This will be a family-friendly  event.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide and mental health are often taboo topics in churches. In this special episode, our pastor talks with Lynne Fetter, MSW, about some practical guidelines for individuals and churches to respond well to mental health crises and loved ones who may be suicidal. Lynne also offers guidance to persons who may be struggling with suicidal ideations themselves. Finally, Lynne and Art discuss some theological ideas underpinning our understanding of mental health and suicide that may be helpful for churches and individuals supporting persons in crisis. We are so grateful for Lynne's willingness to help equip us to better support and respond as a community of faith. We hope you'll listen and also share this with a friend or your church!
