Wind Advisory | Nevada Weather

Listen Later

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Nevada Weather Podcast — it's Tuesday, February 24th.
Nevada's officially split in half today. Las Vegas wakes up to 49 degrees and sunshine. Reno? Rain and wind that'll test your umbrella's will to live.
Down south, you're in for a treat. Vegas hits 75 by 3 P.M. — that's 28 degrees warmer than normal for late February. Winds stay polite, shifting northwest to northeast around 9 A.M. Tonight drops to 53 under clear skies. Wednesday? Sunny and 80. By Friday, we're flirting with 85. Pool weather in February. Nevada doesn't play by the rules.
Now head north. Rain rolls into Reno at 4 A.M. And sticks around until noon. But the real story is the wind. Gusts hit 50 miles an hour in spots like Washoe Valley. Wind Advisory runs until 7 P.M. Highs struggle to 59, but with that wind howling, it'll feel colder. Rain tapers tonight, but those gusts linger. Wednesday brings sun and 61 degrees. Weekend? Mid-60s and dry.
Eastern Nevada, you're catching the worst of it. Ely sees rain starting at 7 A.M. And it doesn't quit until 3 A.M. Wednesday. Twenty hours of steady rain. Highs today only hit 52, with winds at 10 to 15 miles an hour. Tonight's low? 32, feeling like 27. Thursday brings relief — 58 and sunny.
One heads up. Gusts along I-580 could hit 65 miles an hour. Enough to knock down trees or power lines. Lake Tahoe sees waves up to 5 feet. Secure your patio furniture. If you're driving something tall, slow down.
The week ahead? Southern Nevada stays hot through Friday. Northern Nevada rebounds to the 60s by midweek. A possible storm Sunday, but models are still arguing about it.
Check your windshield wipers if you're up north. You'll need them.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
