Let the antitrust games begin for FAMA

Microsoft isn't on the guilty list this time around. Why? Outside gaming, not much consumer impact. And it's not a monopoly any more in any market.
Not a great week for the Microsoft cloud
Back to back (to back) Outlook problems this past week, starting with this one
And today, we're back to admin portal issues for M365/O365. Sigh

Tips and picks
Tip of the week: Display file extensions. It came from the Twitters: Power users are confused about why Windows doesn't display file extensions by default. Power users should know better.
App pick of the week: Visual Studio Code. Everyone's doing it! And now you can access Edge Dev Tools right in the editor
Dev picks of the week: DConf: Microsoft's first Java dev conf for the community. Free reg, Oct. 27 to 29. Learn JavaScript for free with Microsoft's new course
Codename pick of the week: A bevy of Surface-related codenames. Nora, Wakita and Wolfe, Canon, Silas and Goma (thanks Aggoramenti Lumia)
Whiskey pick of the week: Screwball Whiskey. Like peanut butter? Then this is too dangerous to drink. It's unbelievable. Now I need to pair it with a grape jelly vodka :)

Enterprise pick of the week: Dynamics 365 2020 Wave 2. October 1 is the day that the set of Wave 2 features for the Dynamics 365 and Power Platform set of products begins rolling out. Microsoft is holding an online event to discuss some of these from 9-11 am PT on Oct. 1: https://twitter.com/maryjofoley/status/1310967954897596423
Codename pick of the week: Luna. It's an Amazon codename. But it's also the codename for the XP UI. Paul has a little story about this.
Beer pick of the week: Burial Beer Invocation on the River of Laments. Another Asheville pick in honor of Paul's visit. This brewery makes a number of excellent styles, including a Doppelbock called Invocation on the River of Laments. "The finished product is full of dark fruit basket, pumpernickel, roasted pecan and saltine." 7% and only 22 IBUs so not hoppy. Nice for Octoberfest fans.

Beer pick of the week: Wicked Weed Brewing French Toast. There were no Microsoft-made breakfasts this week for us Ignite attendees. But that doesn't mean you can't have a beer for breakfast! Wicked Weed in Ashville, NC, makes an imperial stout called French Toast. Vanilla, cinnamon, maple syrup, and dough flavor via the malts. It's 8.4 percent as so worth it: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30581/114498/

Tip of the week: Change your browser, email app defaults on iOS to Microsoft apps. The latest beta versions of Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Outlook now work with iOS 14.
App pick of the week: Visual Studio Code. Visual Studio Code has emerged as the go-to developer editor on all platforms, including Linux. Part of the appeal is its extensibility. This week, Microsoft shipped its C++ extension.
Enterprise pick of the week: Microsoft Ignite is next week. Ignite 2020 a 2 day virtual event kicking off on Tuesday. The (partial?) session list is up for those who register. Expect lots of cloud, hybrid, Power Platform, M365 but also some Project Reunion stuff, possibly. MJF and Paul will banter live right after WW next week with the Patch & Switch guys.

RIP Internet Explorer, Oracle wants to Buy TikTok, Flight Simulator 2020

The press/blogger briefing for Surface Duo is now public
Surface Duo after the dust settles: Has anyone come up with a good use case?

Now Oracle's joined the bidding

Microsoft 365
The first Microsoft Teams Display is quite limited for now
No new Dev Channel build of Windows 10 today (or likely this week) due to an unspecified bug Xbox
Xbox is getting a new Dashboard ... everywhere
There are some great games coming to Xbox Game Pass in the next two weeks
There are now over 2000 indie games on Xbox
Microsoft Flight Simulator is now available on PC
Tip of the week: Can't get enough of MJF and Paul? (and who can't??) We recorded an episode of MJFChat that focuses on learning
Enterprise pick of the week: Making Azure outage communications less terrible. Microsoft is trying.
Codename pick of the week: Project Osaka. A blast from the MS codename past. Project Osaka, aka CollabDB, was supposed to be a list-sharing app for O365. MS killed it several years ago, but elements of it remain in the new M365 Lists app.
Beer pick of the week: Westbrook Lemon Meringue Pie. In my ongoing series of beers made to taste like desserts, I offer you Lemon Meringue Pie. Lemon Meringue Pie is a sour from the excellent Westbrook Brewing. It does include vanilla, lemon, milk sugar, graham crackers and cinnamon and clocks in at a modest 4 percent. You can have your pie and drink it, too!

Lots of mindless corporate drivel-speak in the internal memos.

Cloud Gaming comes to mobile in beta ahead of September launch
Leak reveals that Xbox Series S DOES exist
Minecraft Education Edition is now available on Chromebooks
Tips and picks
Tip of the week: Make the move to YouTube Music. A lot of people are down on YouTube Music because it's not just like Google Play Music. But it has one major advantage that makes it the single best music service available.
App pick of the week: Parallels Desktop 16. PD 16 arrives with better perf and macOS Big Sur support.
Codename pick of the week: Deschutes. Microsoft's coming CloudPC service has a codename: Deschutes. It *might* be named for the brewery which makes the excellent Fresh Squeezed IPA and Black Butte porter. Or maybe (and more likely) it's named for the place/river in Oregon.
Codename pick 2 of the week: Oakdale. Oh, Dynamics 365/Power Platform team... how did this happen? You seemingly infringed on another company's branded trademark. But at least we have Project Oakdale, the version of the soon-to-be-renamed Dataflex for Teams.
