Our guest this week was SABERA Awardee for lifetime achievement, Dr. Sunil Kaul, Founder Trustee of The ANT, an NGO dedicated to village development in Assam's Chirang district, Bodoland. Dr. Kaul's journey is one of courage and compassion.

After serving in the Army Medical Corps for a decade, treating injuries with boldness, Dr. Kaul felt compelled to address the deeper issues plaguing rural areas. His experiences in Arunachal Pradesh and Rajasthan revealed the stark realities of scarce healthcare, education, poverty, corruption, and poor governance.

Driven by a sense of duty, Dr. Kaul responded by working in rural Rajasthan before relocating to the Northeast amidst militancy. Despite facing challenges like ULFA militants and personal tragedy, Dr. Kaul remained resolute in his mission to empower communities for health and development.

Today, The ANT, under Dr. Kaul's leadership, continues its noble work, training community health workers and fostering development in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and beyond.

Meet SABERA Awardee Meera Shenoy who has been mainstreaming youth with disabilities in education and the workplace. This takes the disabled out of the vicious cycle of poverty and moves them to the virtuous cycle of opportunity. Meera founded youth4jobs which has become the largest organisation in this space in South Asia and is a recognized System Changer. To date, Y4J has reached 12.9 million households and impacted 579,000 youth with disabilities and their parents.

Imagine a group of 12 persons with Autism, They each have difficulty in gross or fine motor skills, sensitivity to smell and touch & remaining focused for a long duration besides difficulties in making social connections. Let's say each person individually has a 20% chance of completing the tasks required to produce a finished product. The probability of all of them working together and producing something of value is close to ZERO. Yet they could jointly work as a team to achieve a productivity of 200 units in a single day.
