  • Day 1592 – Ruling Over Angels – Worldview Wednesday
Welcome to Day 1592 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomRuling Over Angels – Worldview WednesdayWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1592 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today’s current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, we will continue reviewing the book from Dr. Michael S Heiser titled “Supernatural.” The book is an abbreviated version of his more comprehensive book, “The Unseen Realm.” I highly recommend both of these books. Creating a Biblical Worldview based on how the Old and New Testaments connect with God’s overall plan for humanity is essential. This book review will help us understand what the Bible teaches about the unseen world, and why it matters.
    Ruling Over Angels
It’s crucial to our faith that we understand who we are as Christians. We are the sons and daughters of God, a re-fashioned divine council that already participates in our Father’s kingdom. But there’s more to it than that. Yes, we are God’s family council—but to what end?
While we are already in the kingdom (Colossians 1:13), we have not yet seen the full unveiling of that kingdom—we have not seen the world become Eden. This “already, but not yet” paradox runs throughout the Bible in many ways. In this chapter, I want to give you a glimpse of the “not yet” that answers the question “To what end?”
Kingdom Participation NowOur participation in God’s kingdom isn’t predetermined, in this sense: We are not mere robots performing functions programmed for us. That violates the whole idea of being God’s imager, his representative. We were created to be like him. He is free. If we do not have genuine freedom, we cannot be like him—by definition, we would not be like him. We are free to obey and worship, or rebel and indulge ourselves. We will reap what we sow. Our sowing is not programmed.
But God is greater than we are. He had a plan, and it will come to pass. Its success neither depends on nor is forced to adapt to human freedom. We cannot undermine it—nor can the divine beings who are also free to choose.
Think about the heavenly council meeting we reviewed in chapter 1 covering “Believing the Bible.” I asked whether you believed the things the Bible says, and then took you to a meeting of God and his heavenly council in 1 Kings 22. God had decreed (and so it must happen) that it was time for wicked Ahab to die. But God then let the spirit beings in his council decide how to accomplish that (1 Kings 22:19–23).
Predestination and freedom work hand-in-hand in God’s kingdom rule. His purposes will never be overturned or halted. He is able to take sin and rebellion and still accomplish—through other free representatives—what he desires. As C. S. Lewis once said of God (in the book Perelandra), “Whatever you do, He will make good of it. But not the good He had prepared for you if you had obeyed him.”
To what end, here and now, are we God’s family council? To participate with God in liberating people from darkness. To show people how to live justly and with mercy—imitating God for those who need the illustration. To defend and spread truth about the true God in a hostile world under the dominion of envious divine intelligences. To enjoy life as God intended it.
All these callings are training for the kingdom to come. As Paul asked the Corinthians, who had lost a divine perspective while bickering about the affairs of this world in...

  • Day 1591 – God’s Mercy – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1591 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomGod's Mercy – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1591 of our Trek, and it’s time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from David Crosby, and it is: What I have today I have because of God’s mercy. I did not earn it. I do not deserve it. I did not pay for it. I have no rights to it. I cannot keep it except for one thing — God’s mercy.
    God’s Mercy
With today’s ever-increasing entitlement mentality, a quote like this is undoubtedly contrary to popular thinking and opinion. Nearly all of us feel that we earned all that we have, deserve to have it and that it is an inherent right for us to have it. Most people think that health care, education, a livable wage, firearms, worship, and even our ability to live free is an inalienable right that we deserve. While I love living in a country where we have access to all of these, the only reason that we have anything is because of God’s mercy. It is only by God’s mercy and grace that we have life. As Christ-followers we not only have life, we have abundant life. That abundant life does not include anything that I mentioned earlier. Our abundant life is only given to us through God’s mercy. We are not guaranteed anything in life. Many places in the world do not have the blessings we experience in much of the western world. The fact is, though, we do not earn, deserve, or have a right to anything in this world except for what has been provided to us through God’s mercy and grace. Because of God’s mercy and grace, we should be forever thankful and, with a heart of gratitude, thank God for all that He has provided. Great is His faithfulness.

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
    “Once you had no identity as a people;
    now you are God’s people.
    Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.”
As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.’

Welcome to Day 1590 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Bible Study – Conclusions and Affirmations – Meditation MondayWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps; thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy Today is Day 1590 of our Trek, and it is time for Meditation Monday. Taking time to relax, refocus, and reprioritize our lives is crucial in order to create a living legacy. For you, it may just be time alone for quiet reflection. You may utilize structured meditation practices. In my life, Meditation includes reading and reflecting on God’s Word and in prayer. It is a time to renew my mind, refocus on what is most important, and making sure that I am nurturing my soul, mind, and body. As you come along with me on our trek each Meditation Monday, it is my hope and prayer that you, too, will experience a time for reflection and renewing of your mind.
We are continuing our series this week on Meditation Monday as we focus on Mastering Bible Study through a series of brief insights from Hebrew Scholar, Dr. Michael S. Heiser. Our current insights are focusing on accurately interpreting the Bible. Today let us meditate on:
Bible Study – Conclusions and Affirmations· Insight Sixty-Five: Draw Both Positive and Negative Conclusions about What a Verse or Passage Teaches
Have you ever had a hard time putting precisely what you think into words? As a writer and student of the Bible, I’ve experienced that many times. It’s one thing to put the mental energy into studying Scripture. It requires digging into materials that help me try to understand a little bit about Hebrew and Greek grammar, reading background material, evaluating translation choices, that sort of thing. It is another thing altogether to be able to articulate what I’m finding. It can be frustrating.
The problem isn’t writing or speaking: it’s thinking with clarity. Here’s some of the best advice I’ve ever received about clear thinking: to think with clarity, deliberately think about things both positively and negatively. I have read that the best way to come to a clear statement of what you believe is to express yourself in affirmations (positive assertions) and denials (negative assertions).
The exercise of trying to say what you mean and following it by what you don’t mean has a way of separating the mental chaff from the wheat. For example, let’s take the statement in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+13%3A1andversion=NLT (Romans 13:1) that says: Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.
You could say that you believe the verse teaches that every ruler on earth has been put there by God and should therefore be obeyed. But what exactly does that mean? Do you mean to say there are no exceptions? How could you justify one? Is the verse an assertion of God’s activity (God appoints every ruler) so that to disobey a ruler means rebelling against God’s choice? Maybe it’s just a statement of God’s sovereignty without crediting God for every last tyrant on the planet. Or perhaps Paul is merely expressing a wish (i.e., “everyone . . .”) since he knows people can t change their circumstances under the Roman Empire. If your government allows you to replace a ruler, does this verse forbid that? Why would you want to replace someone God put in charge? What is it that you believe about this verse? What don’t you believe?
An excellent way to sharpen your thinking and clarity in communicating to others is to carefully consider your Bible study results...

Today is Day 1588 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Peter Lord, and it is: We have no control over how we feel, how we act — our attitudes and actions — except as they are determined by our thoughts.
    Determined By Our Thoughts
I am sure you have heard the saying ‘you are what you eat.’ I understand the meaning behind this statement, but you don’t become a hamburger when you eat one. A better saying which is far more accurate is, ‘you are what you think about.’ On most days it may not seem like we have control over how we feel, how we act, or our attitudes and actions. It is because all these elements are irrevocably tied together. The missing component in the last two sentences is that it does not consider our thought process. Since we do have control over what we think, it is possible to control our attitudes and actions completely. All thoughts can be divided into two basic categories: true and false. The thoughts that come from God are true. He is the God of all truth and has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and guide us into all truth. If I can receive God’s thoughts, I can think the truth. Therefore I will have the right attitudes and actions.
Consider a glass of water. You have heard the saying, ‘is the glass half full or half empty.’ It is neither; it is entirely full, with half water and half air. The question then becomes, ‘How do you get the air out of a glass?’ By filling it with water. The same applies to our minds. How do you get rid of wrong and untrue thoughts? By filling your mind with true and right thoughts from God. The control of our thought life, then, comes by thinking God’s thoughts with Him. Once we have our thoughts controlled by truth, then how we feel and act, our attitudes and actions will be under control. That is, controlled by God’s Spirit which dwells within us. We are God’s temple where He resides.
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%204%3A8andversion=NLT (Philippians 4:8)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy

  • Day 1587 – Possess More Life – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1587 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomPossess More Life – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1587 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Harold Kushner, and it is: We do ourselves and others a disservice when we make old age something to be feared. Life is not a resource to be used up, so that the older we get, the less life we have left. Life is the accumulation of wisdom, love and experience of people encountered and obstacles overcome. The longer we live, the more life we possess.
    Possess More Life
All too often, I encounter people who fear growing more aged. I have also experienced firsthand how those who tend to be fearful earlier in life experience increasing anxiety as they age. This should not be. We do not deplete ourselves as we age. The opposite is true because the overall potential that we have in life is ever-increasing as we accumulate experience, knowledge, love, and wisdom with each passing day. We gain an abundant life by the people we meet and the trials we overcome. The more we experience life when we are younger adults, the fuller our lives will be, and the less we have to fear with each passing year. We can become more valuable the longer we live and the more of life we possess. The longer we live, the more opportunity we have to impact the lives of those who cross our paths positively. So my encouragement is to stay active, continually learn when you are younger, and keep those habits as you age. I am currently experiencing my father and my mother-in-law going through the later stages of aging (both with advancing dementia). I understand why some fear that they will experience similar situations, but that is not a reason to fear the aging process. I have also experienced many elderly persons living active and productive lives well into their 90s. We need to live fully as long as possible, realizing that God has a purpose for building His kingdom until we take our final breath. The longer we live, the more life we possess, so do not fear. Carry on and enjoy your journey.

Today is Day 1586 of our Trek, and it is Worldview Wednesday.
    Partakers of the Divine Nature
Do you know who you are?
I asked the question earlier, but it’s time to raise it again. Yes, we are in the world but not of it. True, we have been saved by grace through faith in what Jesus did on the cross (Ephesians 2:8–9). But that’s just the beginning of understanding what God has been up to.
God’s original intention in Eden was to merge his human family with his divine family, the heavenly sons of God who were here before creation (Job 38:7–8). He didn’t abandon that plan at the fall. Christian, you will be made divine, like one of God’s elohim children, like Jesus himself (1 John 3:1–3).
Theologians refer to the idea by many labels. The most common is glorification. Peter referred to it as becoming “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+John+3%3A1andversion=NLT (1 John 3:1) puts it this way: See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. In this chapter of Supernatural, we’ll take a look at how the Bible conveys that message.
Sons of God, Seed of AbrahamWhen God turned the nations of the world over to lesser gods at Babel, he did so knowing he would start over with a new human family of his own. God called Abraham (Genesis 12:1–8) right after Babel (Genesis 11:1–9). Through Abraham and his wife Sarah, God would return to his original Edenic plan.
God’s people, the children of Abraham, the Israelites, ultimately failed to restore God’s good rule on earth. But one of those children would succeed. God would become human in Jesus, a descendant of David, Abraham, and Adam. It was through Jesus that God’s promise to one day bless the nations he had punished at Babel was fulfilled. Paul wrote about that in several places. Here are two. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+3%3A3%E2%80%936andversion=NLT (Ephesians 3:3–6):
As I briefly wrote earlier, God himself revealed his mysterious plan to me. As you read what I have written, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ. God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit, he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets. And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.

Today’s quote is from Dag Hammerskjold, and it is: We die on the day when our lives cease to be illuminated by the steady radiance renewed daily, of a wonder, the source of which is beyond reason.
    The Wonder of Life
Life is so wonderful, a gift from God. Yet, many people seem to struggle with maintaining a grateful and positive attitude for each day. We fail to see the wonders that make up each day. From every breath we take and every beat of our heart. The birds that sing, the first flower of spring, the colorful leaves of fall, and the beauty of a single snowflake. Every sunrise and sunset and the brilliant flash of lightning in a summer storm. The wonder of life surrounds us every day. Yes, I understand that some days are challenging, but the fact that we are still breathing means that God continues to have a purpose that we need to fulfill. We need to understand the constant radiance and wonder of God’s love for us. His passion for us is the source of power within us that is beyond any human comprehension. We are created to be bearers of His image. God has given us a purpose to fulfill, which is to share His love with others and teach them to become disciples of Christ. Let us not minimize the work that God has given us to complete the source of which is beyond reason. It, too, is part of the wonder of life.

We are continuing our series this week on Meditation Monday as we focus on Mastering Bible Study through a series of brief insights from Hebrew Scholar, Dr. Michael S. Heiser. Our current insights are focusing on accurately interpreting the Bible. Today let us meditate on:
Bible Study – Bible Concepts and Interpretations· Insight Sixty-Three: Tracing Concepts Through the Bible Is More Profitable than Word Study
Have you ever watched a movie where so much is happening in a scene that you invariably miss something important to the plot? That happens to me almost every time I watch a film adaptation of a Sherlock Holmes story. There are too many things to track simultaneously to think like Sherlock. There’s never just one thing that’s important to notice in any given scene. The Bible is like that—repeatedly.
Developing skills in studying biblical words is essential. But studying individual words often means only discerning one part of a set of ideas that’s important to understanding the meaning of a passage or biblical teaching. The theology of the Bible is often driven by clusters of concepts, each of which might involve one or more words. If you only do word study instead of looking for the collections, your view of biblical theology will be fragmented.
A good illustration of this problem (and the solution) is the Old Testament concept of messiah. It may shock you, but of the nearly forty occurrences of the Hebrew term Mashiach, less than a half dozen refer to a figure who would come well after the Old Testament period. This is because Mashiach means “anointed” and is used throughout the Old Testament for Israelite kings and priests. In other words, you can’t get a theology of the Messiah from the word translated “Messiah.”
This fact notwithstanding, Jews living before the time of Jesus had a well-developed profile of what God’s Messiah would be and do when he arrived. This was possible because the profile wasn’t built on a word study of Mashiach. Instead, it was built by clustering important concepts and observing how those concepts appeared together in various passages to form patterns of usage.
The concept of messiah revolves around ideas associated with the restoration of Eden, faithfulness to God’s commands, servanthood, kingship, and a priestly lineage outside Aaron and the tribe of Levi. Words associated with these themes tend to cluster in passages scattered through the Old Testament.
Careful Bible study, therefore, requires the student to detect and trace threads. Learn to observe terms that occur with other terms. Clustering patterns are often parts of a more remarkable theological tapestry. Biblical writers didn’t write unintentionally....

Welcome to Day 1583 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomTolerance Comes With Age – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1583 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and it is: Tolerance comes with age. I see no fault committed that I myself could not have committed at some time or other.
    Tolerance Comes With Age
As I grow older, I do find that I have become more tolerant of others. I trust that will be true of you also. The more we experience the ebbs and flows of life, we realize that we have all committed faults and have had failures due to making unwise decisions, or responding to others in a manner that was not kind. We understand more clearly that it is best to be patient and offer grace to others that may now be in the same situation that we once were. It would not be wise to gain the moniker of being a grumpy older man or woman. Instead, we need to mellow a bit and show that we have also gained wisdom that has come through the lessons of life with our age. The longer we live, the more opportunity for a positive impact on those we interact with. Especially as Christ-followers, we need to make sure that our speech and actions are seasoned with salt and be open to sharing our wisdom with those who seek it. The kingdom of God grows one person at a time as we encourage and build others up, teaching them love and showing them tolerance and kindness in all interactions.

As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good.

  • Day 1582 – Love What You Do – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Day 1582 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLove What You Do – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Today is Day 1582 of our Trek, and it’s time for your daily snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget:
Today’s quote is from Katharine Graham, and it is: To love what you do and feel that it matters — how could anything be more fun?
    Love What You Do
It has been said that if you find work that you love, you won’t have to work another day of your life. While I understand the meaning and motivation of this quote, there are aspects of any work that you may not love. There are aspects of every area of life that you may not love naturally. The key to love what you do is strongly controlled by our choices. Those choices start early in life by the hobbies we do, and the training we participate in. Those choices begin in our minds. I grew up on an apple orchard, and while there were many aspects of the hard work of farming that I did not particularly enjoy, we had work to do and we did it. As I look back to those formative years, I can see that my work helped support our family of twelve and learned many valuable lessons in the process. During those years, I also learned that I could choose to enjoy what I do, especially when it did make a difference. Those were difficult years, but we also had a lot of fun as a family. As I grew into adulthood, I realized that I enjoyed working because the work I was doing did make a positive impact. First, it provided for Paula and our five kids, and second, it also benefited those companies we served. Even when there were difficulties in our businesses, we chose to enjoy those times and learn the valuable lessons thrusts on us. We knew that we should be grateful to God for everything we did and those who helped us achieve what we did. We learned that in all things, we are working for something that matters, which is going our very best in our service to God and others because it helps to grow God’s kingdom on earth. My appeal to you is to choose to love what you do in all aspects of life because you are making a difference in your world.

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
