  • Day 684 – How to Live to Your Full Potential – Mindshift Monday
    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 684 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

How to Live to Your Full Potential – Mindshift Monday

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 684 of our trek, and it is time for our Mindshift Monday series.

Wisdom-Trek’s primary focus is to assist you in creating your living legacy. Creating your living legacy can only be accomplished by gaining wisdom in many areas of life. You can only gain wisdom by changing what you allow to go into your mind, which is a result of changing the way you think.

In other words, to create your living legacy, you must choose to be in a continual mode of Mindshift. It is easy to get stuck in a mindset that your current circumstances cannot be changed. This is not true, but you must understand this fundamental principle, “In order to change your life, you must change how you think and what you think about.” Our Mindshift Monday podcast and journal will provide you practical ways to make a mindshift to a rich and satisfying life.

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Paula and I had an enjoyable and productive previous two weeks. We invested 10 days in Arizona working with our partners on our construction projects and five days in Anaheim, California attending the annual Podcast Movement Conference. It was great to learn and visit with our friends within the podcast community. I had the opportunity to speak at the conference as one of 12 speakers in the PMx speaker competition.

All speakers were excellent, and while I did not win the competition, it was an honor to be able to participate. I spoke on The Art of Captivating Story Telling through Podcasting. While I have room for improvement in my public speaking, I do enjoy the opportunity. I choose to take advantage of those opportunities when they become available.

It is also our choosing to have the mindset to live up to our God-given potential. God desires us to soar to our greatest heights possible. When we choose otherwise, we minimize what God has planned for us. So on our trek today, we will explore…
How To Live To Your Full Potential

Very few, if any person lives up to his or her God-given potential. From the beginning of creation, this has been the fact. Adam failed to become all that his Creator, God, intended him to be. A perfect relationship between God and humanity became imperfect. A life of discovery and joy became a life of drudgery. Beauty was replaced by ashes. Serenity was washed away by sweat. Thorns and weeds displaced flowers and sin placed its ugly mark on humanity. Why? Because Adam and Eve failed to become all that God intended them to be.

The greatest waste of energy in our world is not that of electricity or fuel. The greatest energy waste shortage today is the unused potential within the lives of people. How about you? If each of us would raise our potential level by 25 percent, just think about how different our world would be for the better.

Let’s explore three waypoints on our trek today that will enable you to become more of the person God desires you to be.
    1. Discover Your Potential
I read a story about a young farm boy whose father raised chickens in the mountains of Colorado. One day this adventuresome boy climbed to a high place in the mountains and found an eagle’s nest. Discovering an unhatched egg, he brought it back with him to the farm and slipped it under a setting hen.

The hen didn’t know the difference and instinctively sat on her eggs until they hatched. So out came the eaglet with the chicks and they all lived together as a family of chickens. The young eaglet did not know the difference and assumed he lo...

Welcome to Day 683 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Courage Is Not the Absence of Fear

Hello, my friend, and welcome to Wisdom-Trek! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your Guide to Wisdom and Creating a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast.

This is Day 683 of our trek, and it is time for our Philosophy Friday series. Each Friday we ponder some of the basic truths and mysteries of life and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy. Currently, we are focusing on how to live with less fear.

Since Paula and I will be traveling for business the last half of August, I will be recording all these podcasts in advance, so we will be substituting our regular podcast with short Wisdom Nugget episodes for three weeks. Next week we will return to our regular format.

This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today's quote is from Ambrose Redmoon, and it is, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear."
Courage Is Not the Absence of Fear
Courage in the face of fear is a choice that we make. Yes, all of us have fears in our life, and even if there is not a solid basis for our fears, they are real to us. The people who display courage also have very real fears, but have chosen to push through those fears because their desired outcome is more important than their fears. We can let fear chain us so that we are ineffective in life, or we can choose to break free from those chains of fear that bind us and move on. Even when the chains are broken, that does not eliminate the fears, but the fears no longer control our destiny. Choose courage in the face of fear.

Even Moses's understudy after 40 years of training had to continually be reminded by God to have courage. Joshua 1:9 says, "This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

That’s a wrap for today. Next FearLess Friday we will return to our longer segments as we dig deep into the subject to "Fear Not." I know you will find these insights interesting and profitable in living a rich and satisfying life.

Our next trek is Mindshift Monday where we will help you live differently by thinking differently. So encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.

If you would like to listen to any of the past daily treks or read the associated journals, they are all available at Wisdom-Trek.com. You can also subscribe through iTunes or Google Play so that each day’s trek will be downloaded automatically.

Thank you so much for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most of all your friend as I serve you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal.

We Must Live As We Think – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 682 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget...

Today’s quote is from Paul Bourget who said, "We must live as we think. Otherwise, we shall end up by thinking as we have lived."
We Must Live As We Think
There are two choices when it comes to directing how we live. We can proactively think forward to what we desire, or we can reactively live based on our thinking in the past.

A wise person will direct positive change in their lives by absorbing information that will project them positively forward. Realizing that if they can change how they think and what they think about, then they can truly change the destiny of their lives.

An unwise person will be stuck in the mud and mire of the past because they believe the lie that there is no way to change past thinking and circumstances, so they are forever doomed to live in the future in the same manner as they lived in the past. If you are forever chained to the past, then you will be continually repeating your past behaviors and outcome for life.

You choose your thinking. Choose to think forward, or live based on your past thinking. Success is a few simple disciplines, practiced every day while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. Although your future choices are impacted by your past choices, you do not need to remain there.

Proverbs 15:28 - The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words.

That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged. If you enjoy these quotes, I have created and published a searchable database of over 10,000 quotes that I have collected for many years. • Day 681 – Good Words, Bad Work – Proverbs 24
    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 680 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Good Words, Bad Work - Proverbs 24

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. Today is Day 681 of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. Every Wednesday along life’s trails we dig for the nuggets of wisdom that are found within the book of Proverbs. Today we will explore Proverbs 24 from The Voice Translation which will give us a fresh perspective on this book of timeless wisdom.

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Since Paula and I will be traveling for business the last half of August and I am recording all these podcasts in advance, we will be substituting our regular podcast with short Wisdom Nugget episodes for three weeks, except for our Wisdom Wednesday episodes. After that, we will return to our regular format.

Today in Proverbs 24 we will learn...
    Good Words, Bad Work
The first half of this chapter (1-22) contains the final twelve of the "Thirty Sayings of the Wise." The “do not” theme from Chapter 23 continues here: don’t envy (1), don’t lie (15), and so on (see verses 17, 19, 21). Wisdom is often measured by self-control; desire is managed by discipline.

Again, the voice of the father is imploring us to take this seriously. Notice the wisdom of Proverbs is laced with parental care, nurture, and love? The next time the Lord tells you “Do Not,” please remember that it stems from a heart of Fatherly love.

At verse 23 a new, small collection begins called “The Wise Also Say” (verses 23-34). Here are the main ideas of this small collection:

    Verses 23b-25, Just judgment
    Verse 26, Good words
    Verse 27, Good work
    Verses 28-29, Bad words
    Verses 30-34, Bad work

Verses 23b-25 prepare us to recognize good from bad in both words and work. If you think about it, words and work are the sum total of a person’s life, and they determine the quality of that life. If you were to measure your life with these sayings, how would you fare?Listen intently as I read Proverbs 24.

1 Do not envy evil people
    or seek their friendship;
2 For they are conniving and violent,
and all they talk about is causing trouble.

    3 Wisdom is required to build a house;
understanding is necessary to make it secure.
4 Knowledge is needed to furnish all the rooms
and fill them with beautiful treasures.
5 A wise man possesses great strength,
    and an intelligent man knows how to increase it;
6 For with wise guidance, you can wage a successful war,
and with a council of many advisors, you will be victorious!
    7 Fools can’t grab hold of wisdom; it’s out of their reach;
they dare not open their mouths in public for no one would listen anyway.

8 Whoever schemes to carry out evil
    will be labeled a troublemaker.
9 Such foolish plans are sinful,
and the mocker is deplored by all.

10 If you fall apart during a crisis,
then you weren’t very strong to begin with.
11 Rescue everyone you can of those being taken away and killed,
and hold on to those innocent souls staggering toward their own slaughter.
12 If you excuse yourself, saying, “Look, we didn’t know anything about this,”
doesn’t God, who knows what you are really thinking, understand your motives?
Isn’t your Protector aware of why you aren’t protecting the innocent?
Will He not repay you in kind?

    13 My son, eat honey—it’s good for you;
the honey that drips from the comb is sweet in your mouth.
14 Know, too, that wisdom is good for your soul:
    if you find it,

Change or Harden – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 680 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today's quote is from Wolfgang Von Goethe, and it is, "We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden."Change is hard, but change is also required. Each new day and every new experience change us in some manner. The question is, are you allowing these changes to expand your horizons, to help you grow and flourish? If not, then these changes are causing you to build an ever stronger wall around you which will eventually entrap you.  Change will either grow us, or shrink us, but change will always impact us. Let us throw off the shackles that so easily bind us and hold us back so we can become all that we can be in our fulfillment of our God-given potential.

As we are told in Hebrews 12:1, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us."That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged quote. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today.  So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
    Change Your Circumstances
Today's quote is from Adlin Sinclair, and it is, "You are the embodiment of the information you choose to accept and act upon. To change your circumstances you need to change your thinking and subsequent actions."Your life today is comprised primarily of what you have allowed to enter into your mind and the subsequent choices and actions that you have made based on the information. If you desire your world to change then you must change what you allow to enter into your mind and then make choices that will align with that information.  Based on those choices then you must take the appropriate actions that will allow your world to change accordingly. For the most part, your life is made up of your choices, not random chance. As the Apostle, Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans in Romans 6:16, "Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living."With these thoughts in mind, we will conclude our trek for today, and as we do remember that what you put into your mind is what will come out in your thoughts and speech.

Next week we will return to our regular episodes of MindShift Monday. On tomorrow’s trek, we will explore another wisdom quote. This 3-minute wisdom supplement will assist you in becoming healthy, wealthy, and wise each day. Thank you for joining me on this trek called life. Half 0f Our Fears Are Baseless

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is Day 678 of our trek time for our Philosophy Friday series. Each Friday we ponder some of the basic truths and mysteries of life and how they can impact us in creating our living legacy. We are focusing on how to live with less fear. Since Paula and I will be traveling for business the last half of August, I will be recording all these podcasts in advance, so we will be substituting our regular podcast with short Wisdom Nugget episodes for three weeks. After that, we will return to our regular format.

This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today's quote is from Christian Bovee, and it is, "There is great beauty in going through life without anxiety or fear. Half our fears are baseless; the other half discreditable."
Half of Our Fears Are Baseless
What fears do you have in your life? What are those fears based on? Are your fears just in your mind or something that has actually happened? What is the worst case scenario if your fears came true? I realize there are some situations in life that truly cause us to fear, and there are certain situations where there is a high likelihood of death or bodily harm that we should avoid. The fact is, though, that most fears that we deal with on a daily basis do not have any basis to them or can be discredited with sound logic and faith that God will protect us.

Even if our worst fears were to happen, nothing good is produced worrying about them ahead of time. We can imagine all sorts of negative things when we contemplate something we’re afraid of, but this doesn’t make those things real. With God’s power through His Word, you need to face your fears. The fears you don’t face control you. The fears you face, you move beyond.

God tells us in Deuteronomy 31:8, "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you."

Next FearLess Friday we will look at another Wisdom Nugget about being fearless. I know you will find these insights interesting and profitable in living a rich and satisfying life. Our next trek is Mindshift Monday where we will help you live differently by thinking differently. So encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along on Monday for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 677 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today’s quote is from Adlai Stevenson who said, "We can chart the path to the future clearly and wisely only when we know the path that has led to the present."
    What Path Are You On?
While we cannot and should not live in the past, nor long for "the good old days, "if we are to wisely plan for the future, we need to know what path brought us to where we are today. Our past is our teacher, and if we do not learn its lessons, especially the lessons of failure, then we are doomed to repeat them in the future. We should not only learn the lessons from our own path if we desire to be a truly wise person but also learn the lessons from those who journey with us on our trek of life. Yes, experience is the best teacher, but only if we remember the lessons and do not repeat them. The first time you fail or make a mistake it is learning. If you repeat the exact same mistake, it is a choice.

The Apostle Peter wrote to us in his 1st letter 1 Peter 1:13-14,

"So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then."That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged. What Not To Do - Proverbs 23

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. Today is Day 676 of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. Every Wednesday along life’s trails we dig for the nuggets of wisdom that are found within the book of Proverbs. Today we will explore Proverbs 23 from The Voice Translation which will give us a fresh perspective on this book of timeless wisdom.

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Since Paula and I will be traveling for business the last half of August, and I am recording all these podcasts in advance, we will be substituting our regular podcast with short Wisdom Nugget episodes for three weeks, except for our Wisdom Wednesday episodes. After that, we will return to our regular format.

Today in Proverbs 23 we will learn…
    What Not To Do
As we continue in the Thirty Sayings of the Wise, we find that many of them are short poems of varying length. Here in Chapter 23, we find the next 12 sayings.

The majority of these 12 sayings have to do with restraint. Notice the repetition of the words “do not,” “let not,” and “be not.” For any parent, these are very familiar words. Parents often tell their kids what not to do out of love for them, as they are actually trying to protect their child from the consequences of their actions. Any person who wants to live a healthy and productive life needs to know what not to do. After a while, these “do nots” become natural.

We also learn that the wise person avoids being easily flattered, trying to get rich, talking too much, meddling in the business of others, neglecting their children, envying selfish people, hanging out with lazy friends, disrespecting parents, and drinking too much.

Notice how many references there are in this chapter to the “heart” (verses 12, 15, 17, 19, 26, and 33) and the “eye” (verses 5, 26, 31, and 33). These are the gateways to a person’s inner life. These sayings are warnings to guard your thoughts and feelings. As you read through these sayings, ask the Lord how you can better discipline your desires.

Listen intently as I read Proverbs 23.

1 When sitting down to eat with a ruler,
take a moment to think about who you are with and what you are doing.
2 If you are the type who eats too much too fast,
do whatever is necessary to curb your enthusiasm for food.
3 Also, do not eye the ruler’s delicacies,
for the food may not be what it seems.
    4 Do not overwork yourself just to become wealthy;
have enough sense to know when to quit.
5 As soon as you become fixed on riches, they vanish.
    For suddenly they sprout wings
and become like a soaring eagle flying high in the sky.
6 Do not sit down and eat the bread of a tight-fisted fellow
or desire any of his delicacies,
7 For deep down he’s keeping track of the cost.
He may say, “Eat up! Drink your fill!”
but he does not mean a word of it.
8 You’ll be sick and lose what little you did eat,
and you’ll waste your breath carrying on a pleasant conversation.
9 Do not waste your wisdom on a fool,
for he doesn’t care for anything you have to say.
10 Do not shift the property line by moving the boundary markers your ancestors established
or try to steal property from orphans
11 Because their Redeemer is strong,
and He will plead their case against you.
    12 Develop a disciplined life.
Be attentive so you can be well informed.
13 Do not withhold discipline from children,
since corporal punishment will not kill them.

  • Day 675 – Responsibility For Our Future – Wisdom Unplugged
    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 675 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Responsibility For Our Future – Wisdom Unplugged

Thank you for joining us for our 5 days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. This is day 675 of our trek, and it is time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
    Responsibility For Our Future
Today's quote is from George Bernard Shaw, and it is, "We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future."It is so easy for us to dwell on the past, both the good and the bad, and romanticize it in our minds. Although we should learn from the past, we should never allow it to be an excuse for abdicating our responsibilities of today and tomorrow. Taking personal responsibility for every action and decision that we make each day is a sign that we are wise and continue to grow in wisdom.

As the wisest man who ever lived told him, King Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 7:10, "Don’t long for 'the good old days.' This is not wise."

That’s a wrap for today’s Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 10,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of Wisdom-Trek.com. As you enjoy these nuggets of wisdom, encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy. If you would like to listen to any of our past treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most importantly, your friend as I serve you through the Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day.

As we take this trek of life together, let us always:

    Live Abundantly (Fully)
    Love Unconditionally
    Listen Intentionally
    Learn Continuously
    Lend to others Generously
    Lead with Integrity
Leave a Living Legacy Each Day

This is Guthrie Chamberlain reminding you to Keep Moving Forward, Enjoy Your Journey, and Create a Great Day Every Day! See you tomorrow for Wisdom Wednesday!
