  • Day 344 – Your Life Plan Blueprint™ – The Purpose of Goals (1)
    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 344 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Your Life Plan Blueprint - The Purpose of Goals (1)
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 344 of our trek, and this week we began a detailed series, which we originally introduced in January, called Your Life Plan Blueprint. We have synthesized the information into a 100 page PDF manual/workbook, which contains all the forms needed to create and maintain your personal life plan.

On our Wisdom-Trek for the remainder of this month, we will walk you through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint, so so by the end of the month you will have your life plan in place and written down. This is our initial release of the manual/workbook, and it is available for download at Wisdom-Trek.com on the left-hand sidebar of any page. Or, if you are listening on your smartphone, you can text the word LifePlan (with no spaces) to 44222 and Your Life Plan Blueprint will be delivered to you in an email.  The manual/workbook is free during the month of May, so I would encourage you to become one of our early adopters so that all updates will be available to you for free also.

Regardless of your age, life planning is a crucial practice that few people ever complete properly. That is why most people wander aimlessly through life. This is not surprising because, until now, there was no easy-to-use tool to complete a life plan. I would encourage you to follow along in the workbook each day during our daily trek, as I will be going through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint during the remainder of this month.   By the end of 2016, we will have a complete web/mobile version available of Your Life Plan Blueprint.

Thank you so much for coming along with me as we trek through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint. If you would like to listen to any of the past episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal. You can also subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on iTunes, Spreaker, Stitcher, Soundcloud, iHeart Radio, and Google Play, so each day’s trek will be downloaded to you automatically.

We are broadcasting from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. As we will be completing a full year of daily treks at the end of May, we are brought to a reflection point on what direction to take Wisdom-Trek starting on June 1st. We have a lot of projects in the planning stage, all of which take time. We want to make sure that our impact is effective as possible, so I need your assistance on how best to serve you. Please email me at [email protected] or leave a comment at the bottom of today’s journal to let me know if you would like me to continue Wisdom-Trek on a 7 day, 5 day, or 3 day per week schedule. Also, let me know if you would like any changes made to the format of the daily trek. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

It is now time to get started on the sixth day of Your Life Plan Blueprint workbook.. Today will be a little bit of a longer trek, as we are shifting from changing your thought patterns to an in-depth analysis of the purpose of goals within Your Life Plan Blueprint
    The Purpose of Goals (1)
If you are following along in the manual/workbook, we are starting on page 11 today with an introduction of goals. We will then move on to page 12 and explore the first purpose of goals, which is to give clarity to your end vision. So, let’s get started on our trek for today.

As you move from changing your thought patterns to the purpose of goals, you are gaining the solid footing needed on your trails of life so that you can properly create your life plan. Tomorrow we will cover two more purposes of goals loc...

    Changing Your Thought Patterns (5)
There are seven attributes that are needed when changing your thought patterns, and so far we have explored: Trust, Thankfulness, Truth, Timing, Travail and the Tempter on pages 3-9 of Your Life Plan Blueprint. Today we will continue with the final point, number 7, which is that you must be Teachable in order to change your thought patterns. This attribute is located on page 10 of the manual.

Today we have finished up on our trail of Changing Your Thought Patterns so that we can properly create our life plans. We learned how very valuable the attribute of being teachable really is. All seven of these traits are essential to make sure that we are thinking properly so that we will be p...

There are seven attributes that are needed when changing your thought patterns and so far we have explored: Trust, Thankfulness, Truth, Timing, and Travail on pages 3-7 of Your Life Plan Blueprint. Today we will continue with point number 6, which is the role the Tempter has on our thought patterns. This attribute is located on pages 8 and 9 of the manual.

Today we have continued on our extended trail preparing our thoughts so that we can properly create our life plan. We covered the crucial role that the Tempter plays in trying to sabotage us into negative and fatalistic thought patterns. We can have victory over this.

Tomorrow we explore the final thought pattern that is needed, which is to be teachable. We will also start the introduction portion of creating your life plan. So, encourage your friends and family to join us,

Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 341 of our trek, and this week we began a detailed series, which we originally introduced in January, called Your Life Plan Blueprint. We have synthesized the information into a 100 page PDF manual/workbook which contains all forms needed to create and maintain your personal life plan.

On our Wisdom-Trek for the remainder of this month we will walk you through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint, so by the end of the month you will have your life plan in place and written down. This is our initial release of the workbook, and it is available for download at Wisdom-Trek.com on the left-hand sidebar of any page. If you are listening on your smartphone, you can text the word LifePlan (with no spaces) to 44222, and Your Life Plan Blueprint will be delivered to you in an email.

We are encouraging you to join us on this trek to create your personal life plan and are offering Your Life Plan Blueprint workbook at no cost during the month of May. I would encourage you to download it as soon as you have an opportunity, and you will become part of our early adopter group. This will entitle you to free updates to the workbook as we make revisions to it based on your feedback.

Regardless of your age, life planning is a crucial practice that few people ever complete properly. That is why most people wander aimlessly through life. This is not surprising because until now there was not an easy-to-use tool to complete a life plan. I would encourage you to follow along in the workbook each day during our daily trek, as I will be going through each page of Your Life Plan Blueprint during the remainder of this month.

The first several days I will lay the groundwork for your life plan, but there are sections of the workbook where you will fill in your own life plan information on your computer, smartphone, or a printed copy. The PDF workbook should allow you to save all your information on the screen as we go through each section.

I recommend using Adobe Acrobat’s free PDF Reader so that you can fill in the workbook on your computer or smartphone. The current Acrobat version is # XI. As we go through the workbook, I would really appreciate your feedback on ways that we can enhance and improve the workbook or my presentation of this information.

My long-term plan is to create a web/mobile version of Your Life Plan Blueprint, which will allow you to seamlessly update all areas online and keep the information current. As an early adopter to Your Life Plan Blueprint, you will be the first ones to know when it is available. When we create the web/mobile version later this year, we will also be creating a video tutorial training course for it.

Thank you so much for coming along with me as we trek through each page of the workbook. I will keep you posted on which pages of the workbook that I am currently covering each day.

You can join us at any time and start along with us from that point on, but to maximize the impact of Your Life Plan Blueprint, I would recommend, as you have time, that you start at the beginning with Day 339 of our trek.

As mentioned during our trek yesterday,

By the time we finish going through Your Life Plan Blueprint at the end of May, we will have completed a full year of Wisdom-Trek. We are in the process of creating monthly journal volumes from the entire year of Wisdom-Trek that can be used as a study guide. Volume 1 is ready and will be released very soon.

As we do come to the end of a full year of daily treks, it is a time for reflection, and I would like to solicit your input. The time involved in creating, recording, and editing our daily treks is extensive, and while I love creating it, there are many other related projects that also require my time. I am contemplating just releasing daily treks three days a week on Monday, Wednesday,

Your Life Plan Blueprint - Changing Your Thought Patterns (1)
Hello, my friend, and welcome to Wisdom-Trek! This is Guthrie Chamberlain, and I am your Guide to Wisdom and Creating a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast.

This is Day 339 of our trek. The past two days we focused our trek on the legacy trail and learned what it means to create, live, and leave a legacy. Today we are beginning a longer series that we introduced in January covering Your Life Plan Blueprint. We have completed our draft or beta version of the PDF workbook and will be going through the workbook in detail as we teach you to use Your Life Plan Blueprint.

Our long term plan by the end of 2016 is to create a web/mobile version of Your Life Plan Blueprint which will allow it to update seamlessly between all categories. As we go through this series, it will be a slightly different and less structured format, so please feel free to provide us feedback so that we can improve the delivery of the course materials. As we are creating the web/mobile version later this year, we will also be creating a video tutorial training course. The exciting news for anyone that goes through Your Life Plan Blueprint with us now as part of our beta program, you can download the workbook for free and we will provide you with updates as they become available.

The workbook is available at Wisdom-Trek.com on the lefthand sidebar of any page. I would encourage you to download it as soon as you have an opportunity. If you are listening on your smart phone text the word LifePlan with no spaces to 44222 and Your Life Plan Blueprint will be delivered to you in an email. I recommend using Adobe Acrobat’s free PDF Reader so that you can fill in the workbook on your computer or smart phone. The current Acrobat version is # IX.

Even if you do not consider yourself a person of the Christian faith, come along with us on our plan. It will have real and practical application for everyone. It is now time to get started with the first day of Your Life Plan Blueprint workbook. Today we will start with…

Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 338 of our trek. Yesterday and today we are focusing our trek on the legacy trail. Tomorrow we will shift our focus to discovering and implementing your life purpose through the beta version of Your Life Plan Blueprint Course. This may be a bit of a different format, so please feel free to provide us feedback.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on our daily trek through life as we are creating, living, and leaving a legacy, which is made possible as we grow in our wisdom, insight, and understanding. While some of our daily treks span multiple days, you can join us at any time and start along with us from that point on. If you would like to listen to any of the past episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal. You can also subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on iTunes, Spreaker, Stitcher, Soundcloud, iHeart Radio, and Google Play so each day’s trek will be downloaded to you automatically.

We are broadcasting from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. On Sunday, we wrapped up some loose ends at The Big House and headed back to our southern home. The weather was pleasant for our drive, and it was an uneventful trip as Paula and I shared driving responsibilities.

While I was driving, I finished the audio version of the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown. It is one of the better books that I have listened to recently. Greg makes some very interesting and good points that our lives can be much more effective when we when we pursue less. This is certainly a practice that I have been trying to implement in my life, so this book was definitely worth listening to. Living effective and impactful lives does not require that we obtain wealth, status, or an abundance of material things. Effectiveness and impact on the lives of others comes from what we are within.

This is what you should desire as you continue your focus on…
Creating, Living, and Leaving Your Legacy #2
Yesterday we established the first three points on a plan of action for legacy. We explored what it means to understand your legacy, deciding to choose your legacy, and then focusing on your legacy. Once you have completed this, you can move forward to…
    4. Live Your Legacy
Now that you have a plan of action, it's time to implement it. You will need to answer this question, “What must you change in the way you conduct yourself so that you live that legacy?” Your list may include behavioral changes, character development, education, working methods, relationship-building style, and other crucial elements. By changing the way you live, you will be able to create and live the legacy you want to leave for the world each day.

We all experience seasons of life and by living your legacy each day, your actions will be leaving a legacy. This action can be compared to passing the baton in a relay race. If you've ever watched a relay race, the most important moment of the race is the passing of the baton. The art of handing off that baton is quite spectacular when it's done well. In western society, we don't put that much credence on sitting at the feet of our elders and allowing them to transfer to us the legacy of their lives. I think that's a great loss, and one of my passions is to change this through our daily Wisdom-Trek podcast.

Even if you don’t consider yourself an elder, if you have anyone who is being impacted by you, then you are the baton-passer. If you are a young father with children, prepare them for the race and be ready to pass the ba...

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. We had a very blessed weekend as were able to invest some quality time with four of our grandchildren who stayed the night on Friday through late on Saturday. We had three segments of monster versus children battles, where I was the monster, of course. In addition to that, we were able to finish sanding the woodwork and floors in the parlor and will be able to apply polyurethane when we return in mid-May.

We had hoped to have the grandkids help paint the swing and fort set, but the weather was too iffy with cool temperatures and intermittent rain. We also made a late day decision to purchase two double and two single porch gliders and 12 pots of knock-out roses for The Big House in preparation for the Chamberlain Family Reunion over July 4th weekend. Nat and Elizabeth were gracious to help us deliver them to our home as Nat has a large pickup.

Preparation at The Big House for the reunion is part of the legacy that we live each day as the family homestead is very meaningful to all family members. We are blessed to be caretakers of the place. Legacy should be important in each of our lives. That is why for a couple of days we will focus on creating, living, and leaving your legacy.

Creating, Living, and Leaving Your Legacy
One undisputable fact of life is that, at some point, we are all going to die. None of us is guaranteed another breath, let alone tomorrow or many years. Many people don’t like to think about it, let alone plan for it. Think for a moment if you would, what would you like your obituary to say?  How you lived your legacy each day and the impact that you made on others through your time, talent, and treasures is what truly remains when you die and will impact all of eternity.

Creating and living your legacy during your life should be solely to benefit future generations. The full impact is something you will never see come to fruition. Just like a farmer who plants an apple tree, knowing he may never live to taste its fruits, living our legacy is a gift whose impact you will leave behind without expecting anything in return.

Just like that farmer's sprouting tree, living legacies don't happen overnight—and they don't happen by accident. They're deliberately crafted over years of wise choices, hard work, and dedication. This certainly does not require that all your resources be forfeited while you are still alive, but it does require a mind-shift. You have to understand that you are not really the owner of your God-given time, talents,

As one of ten kids growing up on the farm, my siblings and I would invest many hours exploring the wooded hills, playing in the creek, and fishing at the pond which were located on the “lower 40 acres.” It was part of our life and fostered my love for being outside in the woods and hiking through God’s beautiful creation. With more years and maturity on my horizon, I have learned many lessons from hiking, both while I am on the trail and their analogy to lessons that I have learned in life. Today we will look at 8 of those lessons.

    1. Move slowly. Don’t rush through or you could get hurt.
I have been known as someone who is a fast walker when I am heading anywhere in life, especially when I have a destination in mind. While hiking, I have come to realize that it is not wise to rush along the trail, especially difficult ones.

Injuries and nasty bruises will result if the pace is too fast.  A wise lesson to learn is to take things slowly.

This is especially true when going downhill. It’s imperative to move at a comfortable pace, making sure your footing is stable, and your body doesn’t push itself too hard. When you rush and misstep, those hiking with you might see your body roll down the side of the mountain. It’s not worth the injury, so be careful and take every step with care.

    2. Don’t focus on the end destination; enjoy the journey.
You may forget that the majority of a hike isn’t glamorous at all. Even so, I find just about any trail interesting to observe with its own beauty, but usually you can only see a very limited distance in front of you. The pictures of people standing in front of open landscapes with grand mountains in the background are beautiful, but it’s a lot of hard work to get there. When you’re rushing through a trail in order to get to the checkpoints, you miss out on a majority of the hike. There are many interesting things to look for, and the conversation of those with you to enjoy.

    3. You have no choice but to keep going.
If you have ever been on a very long or strenuous hike, you know there may be times that you feel you can’t go on or finish to the next stopping point. When you choose to work out on a treadmill, you have the option to press the red stop button, walk off the fatigue, and go fetch some water.

We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. On Thursday, we were onsite with one of our local clients assisting with monthly billing. Although we do like the structure and freedom of working primarily with our clients remotely, it is nice to be on site occasionally as it helps to keep the relationship strong. As it is with most relationships that we foster, it is about living everyday life together. It is the routines of life that foster the trust that is so important. Within the routines of our ordinary lives it is sometimes difficult to see how we impact others.

It is important that we do not minimize that impact as all of us have the capacity to be…
Living an Ordinary Life in an Extraordinary Way
There are so many extraordinary stories out there about people who have overcome incredible and unimaginable odds to go on to do something even more extraordinary. I love these stories and am inspired every time I read another one.

Stories like Bethany Hamilton who had her arm bitten off by a shark while surfing is one. She went on to not only heal but to win several world titles as a professional surfboard athlete. She is referred to as the “Soul Surfer” for her strong faith commitment to God through her seeming tragedy. Another story is of Amy Purdy, who lost both her legs below the knee and a couple of internal organs due to bacterial meningitis. She too healed and went on to be a professional athlete as a pro snowboarder. Business Insider lists 15 corporate CEOs who have learning disabilities and overcame them to be successful in the corporate world.

It almost makes you feel like only the people with the really big, grand, unbelievable obstacles are the ones who can do anything extraordinary. For the rest of us, some days it feels like the biggest obstacles in life are just the mix of the daily grind. Whether that is your routine job, laundry, lawn work, dirty dishes, or playing referee between unruly kids, the mundane nature of it all is almost maddening. But, in the middle of this ordinary life, there are many extraordinary lessons of wisdom to be learned.

    1. Extraordinary moments happen in ordinary times.
As we raised our five children to adulthood, our lives were a blur while we started our computer business, homeschooled the kids through high school, and were very active in our local church. Although we were very busy, probably too much so, our lives certainly created a hectic routine to our days and weeks. They grew up so fast, but within the ordinary course of our daily lives, we taught them to love God, love each other, work hard, and enjoy life. So, the moments that we shared working and traveling through life are absolutely valuable.
