  • Day 224 – Your Life Plan Blueprint – Goals #1
    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 224 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

Your Life Plan Blueprint - Goals #1
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 224 of our Trek, and we are continuing on our current Trek “Your Life Plan Blueprint.” On this trek, we are slowly mapping out the framework that will assist you in setting goals and creating a life plan for yourself. As I stated yesterday, your life plan does not need to be overly complex to be effective. Just like our trek of life, we will take the life planning trail one step at a time.  As always, if you have any questions or would like additional information as we go through our daily trek either leave a comment on Wisdom-Trek.com or email me at [email protected].

As we grow through the Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Blueprint process, I encourage you to begin thinking about your own life plan.  I will be utilizing our daily journals for this trek to create a PDF workbook that you can use to create your life plan. Once the workbook is completed, I will let you know how you can obtain a copy of it.

Since this trek on life planning will take several days, if you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. By the time this episode airs, we will have completed our delayed Christmas celebration with our children and grandchildren. I will provide an update with some pictures within a couple of days. These types of celebrations need to be included as part of your life plan so you do not miss the most special moments of life.

Let’s head out on the trail for day five of our Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Trek, which we refer to as…

    Your Life Plan Blueprint
Before we actually dig into the framework or blueprint to create your life plan, we will spend a couple of days of our trek exploring how to achieve your goals with success. The Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Blueprint is segmented into 7 areas that comprise your life.  Those areas are:

    Spiritual
    Family
    Physical/Health
    Mind/Intellect
    Personal/Social
    Financial
    Work/Career

One long-term objective of a life plan is to make sure that all 7 areas of life are in proper balance. If you find that your life is out of balance in any of these areas, it may take some time, even months or years, to bring all areas into balance. But with a well-developed life plan, you can work toward that objective. Check out the picture representation of the Wisdom-Trek Wheel of Life below.

Before we explore the details of the wheel of life and overall blueprint in depth, let’s first study some basic principles of goal achievement. Goals that you set are the stepping stones of your overall life plan. So let’s look at…
    An Introduction to Goal Achievement
One of the most important elements in creating a life plan is to make sure that you bring your life into balance and to maintain balance when setting new goals.

In one or more of the seven areas listed above, what are some of your biggest goals in life? To lose weight? To earn more money? To be in your dream career? To set up your own business? To grow in your faith walk? To live in abundance? To be at the peak of your health? To meet your life partner? To have a loving family?

For any of these goals, have you ever had the determination to achieve it, devote resources to it, work on it for an extended period of time, only to have it fall flat on your face eventually?

Let’s use an example that most of us can relate to.

Your Life Plan Blueprint - Purposes #3
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 223 of our Trek, and on our current Trek “Your Life Plan Blueprint,” we continue to lay out the framework in detail so that you can create a life plan for yourself. Your life plan does not need to be overly complex to be effective. Minor changes in your life can result in huge benefits. As we grow through the Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Blueprint process, I encourage you to come along with us and begin thinking about your own life plan. When we are finished with this Trek, I will put together a workbook that you can use to create your life plan.

The purpose of Wisdom-Trek is for you to gain wisdom through your daily trek of life and to create a living legacy each day. If you are going to be successful in creating a legacy, establishing a plan for your life is imperative. There are no excuses or factors that will prevent you from creating a well-established plan for your life. Your life plan doesn’t have to change the world, but it should positively impact you and your world. It is my goal and plan to provide you with the information and tools needed to create an on-going plan for your life. Just as with your trek of life, you will need to make continual adjustments to your plan, but your primary focus is fixed based on your values. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The day that this episode is originally airing is January 9th, which is the day we will be celebrating our family Christmas. It is a blessing that we are able to be with our children and grandchildren on this special weekend. The older four grandchildren were able to spend our “Christmas Eve” with Granny and Gramps. We cherish these special times together.

Let’s head on the trail for day four of our Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Trek which we refer to as…
    Your Life Plan Blueprint
I mentioned a couple of days ago that there are 6 essential reasons why we should set goals and create a life plan. We have explored the first 4 reasons which are…

To Give Clarity To Your End Vision
To Drive You Forward Even When You Face Obstacles
    To Give You Laser Focus
    To Make You Accountable

Today we will explore the final 2 reasons which are…
    5. Be The Best That You Can Be
Goals help you achieve your highest potential. Without goals integrated into your life plan, you will slip back into your natural, default set of actions that make you feel safe and comfortable every day.  To use an analogy, when we were growing up on the farm, ruts would form on the farm roads when the tractor would use the roads when it was muddy. After the ruts were formed, many times it was easier to drive in the ruts, even though they were rough, than to try driving on higher ground. Just like those ruts, the familiarity of your default life habits is the adversary of growth. It prevents you from growing. It does not enable you to become the best person you can be. It denies you from tapping into your God-given potential for a rich and satisfying life.

By setting goals for your life plan, you set targets to aim for. These targets make you venture into new places, new contexts, and new situations, which puts you into growth mode. They make you stretch beyond your normal self and reach new heights. They get you outside of your comfort zone. For example, setting a time limit for your run lets you know if you should be running faster.

Your Life Plan Blueprint - Purposes #2
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 222 of our Trek. Yesterday we continued on a new and exciting trek which we are calling “Your Life Plan Blueprint.”  The purpose of Wisdom-Trek is for us to gain wisdom through our daily trek of life and to create a living legacy each day. If you are going to be successful in creating a legacy, establishing a plan for your life is imperative.

With a solid life plan in place, you will then be able to create and live your legacy today, which will leave a positive impact on your world. There are no factors that will prevent you from creating a well-established plan for your life. Your life plan doesn’t have to change the world, but it should positively impact you and your world. It is my goal and plan to provide you with the information and tools needed to create an on-going plan for your life. Just as with our trek of life, we are making continual adjustments to our plan, but our primary focus is fixed. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. As this first week of 2016 is nearing the end, we are looking forward to our family Christmas celebration on Friday night and Saturday. With job changes, a new grandchild, and other financial obligations, our children decided to forego gift exchanges this year, except a few for the grandchildren. Instead, we will just focus on the time of celebration together and the true meaning of the Christmas season. We are very pleased with that decision and are looking forward to the time together with all of our children and grandchildren.

Let’s head out on the trail for day three of our Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Trek which we refer to as…
      Your Life Plan Blueprint
I mentioned yesterday that there are six essential reasons why we should set goals and create a life plan. We explored the first two reasons yesterday, which were:

To Give Clarity To Your End Vision
To Drive You Forward Even When You Face Obstacles

If we are going to go through the process of creating a life plan, we need the wisdom to create an easy and tangible way of establishing the plan. We need a clear strategy for the plan, defined tasks that make up the plan, steps of execution of those tasks, and then a means of review to ensure that the plan has been completed properly and in a timely manner. This is why I refer to your life plan as a blueprint. The Wisdom-Trek Life Plan Blueprint provides everything that we need to ensure that the end result meets the original design.

Today we will explore the next 2 essential reasons why setting goals and making plans are so important in creating a successful life plan.
    3. Give You Laser Focus
Goals give you a single focal point to focus your attention. Whereas your purpose gives you a broad, directional focus to move your life in, goals give you laser focus on what exactly to spend your time and energy on. Think of your time, energy, and efforts as input, and results as the output. A goal acts as your funnel which guides and directs those inputs effectively into your desired output or result.

When you don’t have goals, tied to an overall plan, you are bouncing from one activity to another. These activities may have become urgent due to our neglect, but they are seldom important to your overall life plan. These are activities that play no role in your larger scope of life, but you are not aware of this because you are just living ...

Your Life Plan Blueprint - Purposes #1
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 221 of our Trek. Yesterday we began a new and exciting trek which we are calling “Your Life Plan Blueprint.”   Since the purpose of Wisdom-Trek is for us to gain wisdom through our daily trek of life, establishing a plan for your life is crucial, regardless of your current age or status in life. With a solid life plan in place, you will then be able to create and live your legacy today, which will leave a positive impact on your world.

The most certain way of living a rich and satisfying life and creating a life of purpose is to have a well-established plan for your life. It does not have to be a grand plan to change the world but a plan to positively impact your life and the lives of those that you have the privilege to impact. As we go through the life plan process, if you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. So far it has been a rather pleasant week of work and planning that is coordinating together well. January’s workload is always a bit busier with detailed financial work as we have to prepare budgets, process 1099s, W2s and other tax related work for our clients, including our own companies.

After our introduction to our life plan Trek yesterday, we are now ready to begin on the trail. There are six essential reasons why we should set goals and create a life plan. If we are going to go through the process of creating a life plan, we need an easy and tangible way of not only establishing the plan but also a clear strategy and review to ensure that the plan is realistic and completed in a timely manner. This is why I refer to your life plan as a blueprint. It provides everything that we need to ensure that the end result meets the original specifications. So our new Trek is called…

    Your Life Plan Blueprint
Over the next three days we will explore the 6 essential reasons why setting goals and plans are so important in creating a successful life plan.
    1. Give Clarity To Your End Vision
As the opening quote by Bill Copeland put it across very adeptly, if you don’t have a plan for your life, you are spending your life running around and not achieving anything for yourself. You may be busy, and you may get the illusion that you are doing a lot of things. But they aren’t what you want. If you do not plan your own life, you are just busy fulfilling everyone’s goals and plans.

There are so many things and people that are crying out for your attention that you find yourself continually spinning your wheels on the perpetual treadmill of life. The convenience of fast food outlets or highly processed quick fix meals are ruining your health. The consumer goods and pharmaceuticals industry inundate you with products that are supposed to make you look better, feel better, and perform better. You may be in a job that you don’t really care for, but it provides the false security of a steady income but requires you to spend all of your time there, just to make an adequate living. You get so trapped by the daily grind that you have no time to consider and plan what is best for you and your family.

How are you supposed to manifest what you want if you don’t even set concrete plans? How are you supposed to achieve your dreams and visions if you have never taken the time to clearly define what the plan is for your life? Where do you desire to be in life in 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years?

Your Life Plan - An Introduction
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 220 of our Trek. We invested the first five days of 2016 on our trek up Transformation Mountain where we explored the trails of trust, thankfulness, truth, timing, travail, the Tempter, and being teachable. As we hiked these trails, we learned that in order to enjoy the rich and satisfying life that we desire we must change the way we think in each of these areas. It is my hope that what we learned was beneficial as we start this new year.

Beginning today, we will link this changed mindset to learn how to create your life plan so that 2016 will be your best year ever, and that plan will continue for years to come. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. We continue to work on our life planning to determine the direction and action steps needed to build additional features into Wisdom-Trek and also build the structure for Christian Podcasting Network. It is crucial that we take our time to ensure solid plans for growth. Life is a trek, not a sprint. It is very important that we are able to dovetail these new plans into our current client workload, other business projects, and renovation plans for The Big House. We want to make sure that we properly balance all areas of our lives so that we can truly enjoy the journey.

Today we are beginning a new Trek as we explore why it is so crucial for us to create a life plan. We will learn why it is important and then how to create, follow through, and complete this plan based on predefined milestones and timelines, which we will call our blueprint. So our new Trek is called…

    Your Life Plan Blueprint
If you desire to achieve success and to create/build a living legacy, you must create a life plan with a means of measuring progress along the trails of life. It does not matter what your age is or what your current economic status is in life. It is never too late to begin.

This trek will be a lengthy one as we will first explore the 6 important reasons why we should create a life plan, and then we will travel through the trails of a detailed 5-Step life plan blueprint. Since I purposely keep the Wisdom-Trek episodes to between 7-9 minutes a day, we will break this life planning into small digestible nuggets of wisdom. When we complete the entire Trek, I will merge the entire plan into a separate PDF document that you can download for review.

Before we begin the trails of laying out your actual life plan, I want to make sure that you understand why it is important. Creating and following your life plan is one of the most important events in life because it can change your course for the remainder of your life.

While I fully understand, that God will ultimately give us direction for our lives, He is also very concerned that we live our lives with purpose, on purpose. God addresses the issue of planning over 100 times in His Word. If we design our plans according to the principles and precepts in His Word, then we can rely on the wisdom in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your actions to the Lord,  and your plans will succeed."

If we do our part in the planning process, God will see that our plans are successful. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'"

If we remember to give God the glory,

Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 219 of our Trek. We have invested the past four days on our trek up Transformation Mountain, and today will be our last trail to explore. I will emphasize again how important it is for us to have the proper mindset as we begin 2016. Today we will finish our 7th thought pattern to create a rich and satisfying life. Starting tomorrow, our trek will focus on setting our plans and goals for this new year. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. We are back into our normal work routine with our map of goals, plans, and timelines set for the year. We do realize that there will be obstacles, detours, and challenges along our trek for 2016, but by having our map laid out, we will continue making adjustments as needed.

We are looking forward to this upcoming weekend as we will have our five kids, their spouses, and all six grandchildren in for our Christmas celebration here in Indian Trail. We strive to be as flexible as possible during the Christmas holiday so that the individual families can establish their own traditions while still being able to get together with our kids.

Let’s continue on this first trek for 2016, as we hike one final trail on the Mountain of Transformation. Changing the way you think through the renewing of your mind is the only way to obtain personal transformation in any area of your life. If you expect 2016 to be a better year than last, then it will only happen if you change how you think. On our final trail up Transformation Mountain, we will explore how to be teachable so that we can learn and apply lasting change in our lives. This is a nugget of wisdom that is so important, especially in today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world. Alvin Toffler put it this way, “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”  Today let us be teachable as we continue our exploration of the…

7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life
So far we have covered the thought patterns of trust, thankfulness, truth, timing, travail, and the Tempter. Today we will finish the first trek of 2016 as we explore how to be teachable. If you missed the first four days of this current trek, please listen to them or read the daily journal to learn the wisdom contained there. If you do not change your thought patterns through these seven elements that we are exploring, then you cannot expect your life to change. The other six elements that we explored are all based on this final one. To change you must learn, and to learn you must be teachable. So let’s explore…

    7. Teachable
If you want your life to be transformed, you must fill your mind with thoughts of obedience to the will of God. You must not have a rebellious and stubborn mind which refuses to submit to the will of God. You must be willing to submit to the ways and thoughts of God. You must be teachable and willing to learn from God. You must put away thoughts of pride and self-sufficiency that refuse to acknowledge the need for God’s wisdom. When you allow your mind to receive the wisdom of God, your life will be transformed.

We continue this week on our trek up Transformation Mountain, where I want to emphasize again how important it is for us to have the proper mindset as we begin 2016. We are exploring how we need to renew our minds so we can transform our lives. Today and tomorrow we will finish our seven thought patterns to create a rich and satisfying life. We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The weekend was both relaxing and productive. Paula and I were able to complete additional work on our life/business plan, and we went to see the new Star Wars movie. We also were able to worship with our local fellowship of believers and take a nice long walk on a cool but pleasant Sunday afternoon. It was quite an enjoyable New Year’s weekend, and we are prepared to start the first workweek of 2016 with new focus and direction.

Let’s continue on our Wisdom-Trek for 2016, as we hike another trail today on the Mountain of Transformation. Personal transformation in any area of our lives first begins on the trails of renewing our minds, or it might be said, changing the way we think. The only way 2016 will be a better year is if we change how we think. Today on the trek up Transformation Mountain, we will explore the role that the Tempter has in our thought process. This is an important nugget of wisdom that is often overlooked when we consider making lasting positive changes in our life. Today we continue our exploration of the…

7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life
To make significant and lasting changes, it takes consistent and persistent commitment to change the way you think.  You have to consciously have a gate-keeper monitoring what you allow into your mind each day. So far we have covered the thought patterns of trust, thankfulness, truth, timing, and travail. If you missed these first three days of this current trek, please listen to them or read the daily journal to learn the wisdom contained there. Today we will explore the 6th thought pattern which is the Tempter, the evil one.

As a Christ follower, I am convinced there are very real and present evil forces in the world who influence the bad that happens in our world today. If we do not change our thought patterns through the five elements that we covered previously, it opens up the possibility to be influenced by the Tempter. You need to learn how to prevent the Tempter from influencing your thought pattern so that you can make real and lasting changes in your life. So let’s explore…

    6. The Tempter
If you want your lives to be transformed, you must recognize the attacks of the enemy on your mind. The Tempter will attack your minds with thoughts of evil, accusations, rebellion, strife, defeat, unworthiness, lies, and hate. These unclean spirits wage a relentless war on your minds. You must recognize the suggestions of these evil spirits and resist them at once. When you fill your mind with the thoughts of God and refuse to entertain the thoughts presented by the Tempter, your life will be transformed. You must allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your prayers as you pray in the spirit and continually feed on God’s Word.

You must resist the Tempter through the knowledge of God’s word.

7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life
I stated on the first two days of this year that if you desire to live a life that is rich and satisfying in 2016 and beyond, then it starts with changing the way that you think. Why is it so hard to change the way we think - to choose the right, just, and good? It is such a simple concept, and yet for most of us, it is so difficult to do consistently each day. This is because changing our thoughts and changing our lives is hard work. Your thought patterns, your habits, and the manner in which you live is so engrained in you. To make significant and lasting changes, it takes consistent and persistent commitment. We have to consciously have a gate-keeper monitoring what we allow into our minds. Our minds have been programmed throughout our lives based on what we have allowed our minds to feed on each day.

So far we have covered the thought patterns of trust, thankfulness, truth, and timing. If you missed these first two days, please listen to them or read the daily journal to learn the wisdom contained there. Today we will explore the 5th thought pattern which is travail, or it could be referred to as hard work. You need to infuse this thought pattern into your life to make a real and lasting change. So let’s explore…

    5. Travail
If you want your life to be transformed, you must fill your minds with thoughts of diligence, labor, and travail. You must be a person who is responsible, reliable, hardworking, committed to excellence, and task-oriented. You must put away thoughts of laziness and apathy. You must not be a wandering and uncommitted person. You must avoid expecting everything to be easy and be prepared to handle difficult responsibilities. You must take responsibility for your lives and avoid putting the blame on others for whatever happens in your life. When you fill your mind with thoughts of diligence and excellence, your life will be transformed.

Let’s look at some action steps on our trail today that will help you to implement a change of thought p...

I stated yesterday that if you desire to live a life that is rich and satisfying in 2016 and beyond, then it starts with changing the way that you think. It is such a simple concept, and yet for most of us, it is so difficult to do consistently each day. Your thought patterns, your habits, and the manner in which you live is so engrained in you. To make significant and lasting changes, it takes consistent and persistent commitment to change the way you think. Changing the way you think first begins with what you allow to enter into your mind. Your mind is programmed for certain thought patterns and outcomes based on what you feed it. Yesterday we covered the first two thought patterns of trust and thankfulness. Today we will explore the next two thought patterns that you need to infuse into your lives to make a real and lasting change. The first of those is…

    3. Truth
If you want your life to be transformed, you must fill your mind with thoughts of truth. You must meditate on the Word of God and fill your heart and mind with the revelation of the truth from the Word of God, which will bring freedom and deliverance in your life. You should not be deceived by the lies of the devil. You must put away thoughts of lies, slander, gossip, impurity, falsehood, and evil. You must not allow your minds to be filled with the filth of this world and not allow your mind to dwell on the evil that may reach your ears. You must meditate on thoughts of goodness and purity and truth and not allow yourself to be deceived by appearances. When your minds are filled with the truth, your life will be transformed.

You must be willing to seek truth.
John 8:32  - And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
You must be willing to obey the truth.
    Genesis 3:1-5
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

“Of course, we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed ...

    Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy
Welcome to Day 215 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.
This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life #1
Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 215 of our Trek. If you are listening to this podcast the day it is released, I would like to say Happy New Year! May 2016 be filled with blessings and be your best year ever!

For the final week of 2015, we explored two important areas of life. The first was how to live with purpose, on purpose. The second area we explored included the statements from the Apostle Paul that he proclaimed near the end of his life: “I have fought the Good Fight,” “I have finished the race,” and “I have remained faithful.” Let us resolve to be able to say this at the end of 2016 and every year of our life.

Listening to Wisdom-Trek daily is one thing that will help you to gain the wisdom you need to live your legacy today, which will also allow you to leave a legacy tomorrow. Today is the start of a brand new year, and I want to emphasize how important it is for us to have the proper mindset as we begin 2016. For the first three days of this year, we will explore how we need to renew our minds so we can transform our lives. After that, we will spend a few days focusing on setting our plans and goals for this new year. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Based on the life planning that Paula and I have completed so far, 2016 will be a very busy and eventful year. In preparation for the Chamberlain reunion in July, we will be spending a significant amount of time in Marietta this year working on and around The Big House. We are continuing our planning during this next week or so as we lay out the detailed plans for our new business focus.

It is now time to begin our Wisdom-Trek for 2016, so let’s get started on our trail for today as we hike the mountain of transformation. Personal transformation of any area in our life first begins on the trail of renewing our minds, or it might be said, changing the way you think. 1. Trust
If you want your life to be transformed, you must renew your mind.  You must change your thinking before you can change your life. You must be thinking thoughts of trust and faith and confidence in God. You must put away thoughts of fear, unbelief, worry, suspicion, unworthiness and doubt from your mind. Your mind must be dominated by thoughts of faith and trust in the faithfulness and goodness of God. Such positive thoughts will cause positive changes in your life, and you will be transformed. Whenever you need wisdom, insight, and understanding,
