Welcome to Day 2,001 of  Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

The Advantages Of Companionship – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 2001 of our trek. What a blessing it has been to serve you these past 2,000 treks. We are transitioning in the structure of Wisdom-Trek to focus on the great wisdom books of the Bible.
One habit I have practiced nearly every day for the past 45+ years of my adult life is to read the chapter in the book of Proverbs that corresponds to the day of the month. This single habit has been the catalyst for gaining wisdom and living a life with wisdom, and it can do the same for your life.
So, beginning October 1st, I will start publishing the reading of the chapter in Proverbs that corresponds to the day of the month. Before that, I will read through the book of Ecclesiastes. King Solomon, who wrote both Ecclesiastics and Proverbs, was the wisest person to live. He wrote Ecclesiastes late in his life after trying many other paths to wisdom, and then he realized God’s Wisdom is the only true wisdom. This realization is what drives me to seek out God’s wisdom each day.
Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today I will read Ecclesiastes 4, which is certainly fitting for episode 2,000 of Wisdom-Trek. I have titled this chapter:
    The Advantages of Companionship
Again, I observed all the oppression that takes place under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, with no one to comfort them. The oppressors have great power, and their victims are helpless. 2 So I concluded that the dead are better off than the living. 3 But most fortunate of all are those who are not yet born. For they have not seen all the evil that is done under the sun.
4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. But this, too, is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
5 “Fools fold their idle hands,
    leading them to ruin.”
    6 And yet,
“Better to have one handful with quietness
than two handfuls with hard work
    and chasing the wind.”
    • The Advantages of Companionship

    • 7 I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. 8 This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.
9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are

Today I will read Ecclesiastes 3, which is certainly fitting for episode 2,000 of Wisdom-Trek. I have titled this chapter:
      A Time For Everything
For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do people really get for all their hard work? 10 I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. 11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. 12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. 13 And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.
14 And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God’s purpose is that people should fear him. 15 What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before, because God makes the same things happen over and over again.

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Let’s read Ecclesiastes 2, and I have titled this chapter:
The Futility of Pleasure and Work
I said to myself, “Come on, let’s try pleasure. Let’s look for the ‘good things’ in life.” But I found that this, too, was meaningless. 2 So I said, “Laughter is silly. What good does it do to seek pleasure?” 3 After much thought, I decided to cheer myself with wine. And while still seeking wisdom, I clutched at foolishness. In this way, I tried to experience the only happiness most people find during their brief life in this world.
4 I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself and by planting beautiful vineyards. 5 I made gardens and parks, filling them with all kinds of fruit trees. 6 I built reservoirs to collect the water to irrigate my many flourishing groves. 7 I bought slaves, both men and women, and others were born into my household. I also owned large herds and flocks, more than any of the kings who had lived in Jerusalem before me. 8 I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women, and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!
9 So I became greater than all who had lived in Jerusalem before me, and my wisdom never failed me. 10 Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. 11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.
        • The Wise and the Foolish

        • 12 So I decided to compare wisdom with foolishness and madness (for who can do this better than I, the king?). 13 I thought, “Wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness. 14 For the wise can see where they are going, but fools walk in the dark.” Yet I saw that the wise and the...

Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Let’s begin today with the reading of Ecclesiastes 1. I have titled this chapter:
A View of Wisdom Without God
These are the words of the Teacher, King David’s son, who ruled in Jerusalem.
          • Everything Is Meaningless

          • 2 “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”
3 What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? 4 Generations come, and generations go, but the earth never changes. 5 The sun rises, and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. 6 The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles. 7 Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. 8 Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content.
9 History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. 10 Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually, it is old; nothing is ever truly new. 11 We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.
            • The Teacher Speaks: The Futility of Wisdom

            • 12 I, the Teacher, was king of Israel, and I lived in Jerusalem. 13 I devoted myself to search for understanding and to explore by wisdom everything being done under heaven. I soon discovered that God has dealt a tragic existence to the human race. 14 I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.
15 What is wrong cannot be made right.
What is missing cannot be recovered.
16 I said to myself, “Look, I am wiser than any of...

Give Away Your Riches – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1997 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.
Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today’s trek as we increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Proverbs 16:16 says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!" If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Richard Fairchild, and it is, "Andrew Carnegie, who amassed a fortune of over 400 million dollars, ended up giving 99.5% of it away. He said this about it, ‘The man who dies rich, dies disgraced.’"
              Give Away Your Riches
Andrew Carnegie was a business tycoon whose fortune today would be worth 6.85 trillion dollars. He was undoubtedly one of the wealthiest persons of his day and would be the same today. Yet, even with all of his wealth, he understood that you can’t take it with you, and he gave nearly all of his wealth away. Most cities today still have a library that Andrew Carnegie initially funded.
As Christ-followers, how we view possession, especially wealth, determines where our heart is. At best, we are to be stewards or caretakers of what God has given us the privilege to manage. We don’t own anything.
The rich man nor the pauper take material resources with us when we die. Yes, we may pass on some of those resources to our family or worthy organizations, but we will no longer manage them.
What we pass on in the way of character and integrity will determine our heritage for eternity. We can instruct and help others, which in turn will help others. This is the impact that we have on eternity.
              I Timothy 6:17-18
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.
As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.

              God's Habitation – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1996 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from A. W. Tozer, and it is, “And what kind of habitation pleases God? What must our natures be like before he can feel at home within us? He asks nothing but a pure heart and a single mind. He asks no rich paneling, no rugs from the Orient, no art treasures from afar. He desires but sincerity, transparency, humility, and love. He will see to the rest.”
              God’s Habitation
A.W. Tozer was undoubtedly a man who knew and understood God better than most. When Jesus Christ ascended to heaven after His resurrection, He left His disciples with the promise that He would send an Advocate, a helper who would dwell within us and instruct us according to God’s Word. God’s Spirit dwelling in us gives us everything we need to live a Godly life, everything we need to be about building God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
God’s dwelling is each individual believer and all believers corporately; that is His church. Therefore, as the temple of God, we should maintain a pure heart and singleness of mind. God does not require great riches, for He has created it all. He chooses to dwell in our earthen vessels and desires us to have sincerity, transparency, humility, and love for Him and each other. He will take care of all of our needs.
              Micah 6:8
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

We are on Day 1995 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. So we are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before.

If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.
Today’s quote is from Johnny Carson, and it is, “And so it has come to this. I am one of the lucky people in the world. I found something that I always wanted to do and I have enjoyed every single minute of it.”
              Enjoying Every Minute
While I am more inclined to say it is by God’s grace and providence in my life that brings me to the place where I can agree with Johnny Carson. If you understand and accept that you were put on earth for a reason, and that ultimately that reason is to bring honor and glory to God by building His kingdom here on earth, then you will realize that it does not matter as much about what you do for employment, even if it is the high calling of being a stay-at-home parent.
Our calling and vocation as citizens of God’s kingdom are to live in such a manner that the love and grace of God flow through us to everyone we meet. So find out how best God can use you in your world, and then choose to find joy even on those difficult days. God’s grace abounds, and our lives and imagers of God should be to project God in all that we do.
              Ecclesiastes 5:18-20
Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life. And it is a good thing to receive wealth from God and the good health to enjoy it. To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God. God keeps such people so busy enjoying life that they take no time to brood over the past.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1994 of our Trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Haruki Murakami, and it is, “And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
              Out of the Storm
Much like the pain of delivering a baby, or so I am told, when you are in the middle of a storm of life, it feels like you cannot endure. But, as with a newborn baby, once you hold that miracle of life, all the pain dissipates. Similarly, once the storms of life are over and you manage to survive, you may not realize at first that you have come through the storm.
After the initial shock, knowing that the storm is over, you won’t be the same person you were when you entered that storm. Your life will be changed. If your mindset is strong and positive, you will shine like the sun after a storm. You will have learned the lessons of the storm, and know that when the next storm comes, you have the strength to get through it. You will rejoice in life lessons that allow you to carry on.
              Proverbs 10:25
When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.

Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1993 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from J. C. Geikie, and it is, "An undivided heart, which worships God alone and trusts him as it should, is raised above all anxiety for earthly wants."
              An Undivided Heart
Much of our anxiety and frustration in life is caused by a divided heart and mind. We desire that which is short-term and fleeting as opposed to being willing to sacrifice for that which is better for us long-term. We don’t trust God enough to be patient and wait on Him for the best for us. Instead, we settle for what is just "good enough."
Only when we become undivided in heart and mind and desire God’s will for us, trusting in Him above all else, will our anxieties fade, and will we be satisfied and fulfilled in Him. Let us trust in God, allowing our confidence to grow, then fear and anxiety will control us less and less. Be undivided in heart and mind.
              James 1:5-8
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom
Laugh to Forget – Daily Wisdom
Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1992 of our trek, and it’s time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote and some wise words from Gramps for today’s trek.
Today’s quote is from Tom Bodett, and it is, “An optimist laughs to forget; the pessimist forgets to laugh.”
              Laugh to Forget
I realize that different people have different personalities and perspectives. Some are naturally inclined to view life through the lens of the past, others through the present, and still others through the perceived future. Some people are more pessimistic while others are optimistic. While I understand that part of a person’s outlook may be genetic in nature, or shaped by their past, we all have a choice to view each situation in life negatively or positively.
As I have mentioned previously, I am an eternal optimist, and I will reframe just about everything I experience or encounter through a positive lens and mindset. I don’t know how to view life in any other manner. I must admit though when things are rough in life, I must choose that I will look for the good and benefits of every encounter, whether it appears to be good or bad.
While we are in a situation, we don’t fully comprehend at the time if the situation will ultimately be good or bad. Many times, God permits us to go through trials and tribulations that are difficult to shape and mold us into His image. So, choose to laugh in every situation, and you will soon find that every situation is an opportunity to laugh. Life in this physical realm is short whether you live to 10 years or 150 years, so learn to laugh at life. And the road you are on will appear much smoother.
              Psalm 126
A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.
When the Lord brought back his exiles to Jerusalem,
              it was like a dream!
              We were filled with laughter,
              and we sang for joy.
              And the other nations said,
“What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!
              What joy!
              Restore our fortunes, Lord,
              as streams renew the desert.
              Those who plant in tears
will harvest with shouts of joy.
They weep as they go to plant their seed,
but they sing as they return with the harvest.
