In the concluding segment with Danielle, she brings a real event to the table for us to analyze that connects to the episode's major theme of communication. The conversation reveals the challenges of growth including how our relationships to others changes as we embrace a new way of doing things. Change can often be unsettling for others, especially within the context of the workspace. Co-workers cling to the expectations for things to remain relatively the same including people's behaviors, attitudes, communication style, etc. In the situation Danielle describes, one can see that enacting such changes can also result in unforeseen consequences. For example, Danielle is now presented with the challenge of evaluating her relationship to her co-worker, debating if the changes are beneficial or destructive, and/or thinking about alternative ways in which to respond in the future. I thank Danielle for sharing the details of the event, being vulnerable on the mic, and allowing us to analyze it.

In this episode, I had the opportunity to pick the brain of a fellow peer from Lumia--a program for life coach training and development. Danielle and I start the conversation by discussing how life coach training has impacted us both personally and professionally. As the interview progresses, it becomes clear that communication plays a large role in both our training in and life in general. Danielle then invites us into her world by sharing the details of her goal to improve her communication skills and why it is important to her. I appreciate Danielle's willingness to elaborate on the details of her journey, the process of change, and the challenges along the way. Overall, I think there is a lot to takeaway from the interview including the understanding that some things are within our control and some are not. It is when we trick ourselves into believing all things are outside of our control that we find ourselves harboring resentment, making excuses, and resisting our innate capacity to change our circumstances. Danielle's story ultimately represents an account of embracing a growth mindset in which she experiments with what's possible through practicing new behaviors, developing new skills, and learning to manage and regulate her emotions. We then wrap up the first segment talking about skydiving and what it is like to face our fears.

This episode continues with sleep hygiene. First, I try to address some of the holes from the previous discussion and fill in the gaps with more definitions, concepts, and examples. Then, I include a segment about early sun exposure as a helpful way to entrain your circadian rhythm. The more we become aligned with our circadian rhythm and chronotype, the more we can begin to optimize our health and well-being.

This episode is an introduction into sleep hygiene. Sleep plays a major role in how much energy we have, our ability to focus, our levels of productivity, and even our mood on a day-to-day basis. In understanding more about biology, physiology, and sleep chronotypes, it is possible to make micro-adjustments in your social life (wake up, exercise, work, and socialize, etc.) that will help you optimize your overall health and well-being. In other words, the timing of your daily activities will be more beneficial and helpful rather than harmful and unhelpful. In this segment, I share how following my intuition had both positive and negative results. I also begin discussing how to discover your chronotype, what that means, and how it relates to health and wellness.

In this "whimsical" episode, the youthful and multi-talented artist, Kory Rajotte (Golden Boy) and I, talk about the origins of his alter ego, music production, the creative process, and what inspires him to keep growing as an artist. As he shared his experiences, the two themes that surfaced included being playful in our endeavors as humans and the inherent challenges of learning in all that we do. Aside from the fun stories and deep-belly laughs, there were several existential and psychological insights extracted from our discussion. Kory's message for the audience is to "keep creating" which reflects his attitude towards life. Coinciding with that message, we finish up the segment by talking about Yoga with Adriene (link below) and that, in order to "keep creating", we must "show up"--or get the ball rolling, so to speak, by taking action and engaging with life in some way, shape, or form.

You might be wondering, what is the role of the intangible, psychological construct, "the ego", that is often referred to in conversations? In what ways does the ego characterize our personality--influencing our behaviors, reinforcing our thought patterns, and responding to emotions?

In this insightful episode, Thomas and I discuss the nature and function of the ego. By using a holistic perspective of the mind, body, and soul, we explain how an over-identification with the ego results in unresolved trauma and maladaptive coping strategies. One way in which we accomplish this is by sharing personal memories that are associated with the ego and our unique developmental challenges.

Additionally, we emphasize the importance of creating awareness of the processes of the ego by sharing steps to make the subconscious dynamics of our psyche conscious. All of which makes it possible to recognize the ways in which maladaptive coping strategies that are typically established as a child are being utilized as an adult. The effects of this can be seen in the various ways in which we respond to different environmental demands. By making the conscious decision to modify the ego's role in our lives is a testament to the belief that personal transformation is possible and we end the conversation on a positive note regarding doing the work.

In our analysis of indoor rock climbing, we manage to highlight significant physical and mental opportunities of growth that are inherent not just in this particular activity, but in any activity in which we apply ourselves; especially when we have the intention to discover a dimension of our untapped potential. The conversation is light, informative, motivational, and insightful. Additionally, we talk about the different perspectives of teamwork, collaboration, and helping others on a micro & macro level. Lastly, we briefly talk about the value of money and our opinions about its powerful influence on the decisions--and sacrifices--we make to obtain a desired amount.
