  • Simon the Sorcerer
Philip, another of the elders chosen by the people to serve the people, goes to Samaria to preach the Word. There he encounters a man given to sorcery. The man, who was named Simon, wants to receive the power he sees in Philip, so he "believes" and is baptized. Quickly, Simon realizes that to have the power he craves, he needs to have the same Spirit he sees in Philip. But rather than asking God to come into his life and transform him, he thinks he can shortcut the process and buy the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Peter, who has also joined Philip in Samaria, rebukes Simon and tells him he needs to change his thinking, renounce his bitterness, which Peter calls a poison) and pray to be forgiven. This story led to a discussion from James 2 who teaches about the dichotomy of saying you have faith when nothing in your life is congruent with what you say you believe.

  • THE MULE THAT WOULDN’T MOVE (and the Prophet Who Did)01
THE MULE THAT WOULDN'T MOVE (and the Prophet Who Did)1 Samuel 15:23 KJV Eli tries to haul lumber with Silas the mule, whose stubbornness mirrors his own. The whittling grandpas tell the story of Jonah, and the kids imagine Jonah helping Eli learn humility. Eli calms down, apologizes to Silas, and the mule finally moves. Lesson: obedience and humility work better than force. When 14-year-old Eli, the most stubborn kid in town, gets stuck trying to haul lumber with Silas the mule (even more stubborn), the Mule Barn grandpas settle in with their pocketknives and say:"Boy, that mule reminds me of you more'n anything."While they whittle, the kids imagine a visit from Jonah, who tries to talk sense into Eli but ends up arguing with the mule instead. Jonah tells the truth about what really went through his mind in the belly of the great fish, teaching Eli that stubbornness can keep you from God's direction. The climax: Eli must choose whether to stay stuck—or swallow his pride. The 1 Samuel scripture names the sin—stubbornness—and connects it to a spiritual issue (idolatry), teaching Eli that his willfulness is blocking God's direction for his life.

  • Ch 18. Deuteronomy Bible Study The Prophet Like Moses | Lawful Worship & God’s Appoi
In this in-depth Bible study through Deuteronomy chapter 18, we examine Moses' instruction to Israel on the Plains of Moab as they stand on the brink of entering the Promised Land. This chapter addresses two major themes: God's provision for the Levites and priests, and God's strict prohibition against pagan spiritual practices, contrasted with His promise to raise up a Prophet like Moses. We begin by setting the historical context—Israel's wilderness journey, their position east of the Jordan River, and the structure of the Levitical cities. From there, the study walks verse-by-verse through Deuteronomy 18, explaining: • Why the tribe of Levi received no land inheritance • How God provided for priests and Levites through offerings • The purpose of scattering Levites among the tribes • God's condemnation of divination, witchcraft, necromancy, and false spiritual guidance • Why these practices were an "abomination" to the Lord • The contrast between pagan attempts at spiritual knowledge and God's ordained revelation The study then focuses closely on Deuteronomy 18:15–19, where Moses foretells that God will raise up a Prophet like unto himself. Using Scripture to interpret Scripture, this lesson traces that prophecy through: John 1 John 7 Acts 3 showing clearly how the New Testament identifies Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of this promise—the perfect Mediator between God and man, whom all are commanded to hear. This is a doctrinal, historical, and Christ-centered Bible study designed to help believers understand: God's holiness in worship The danger of unauthorized spiritual practices The authority of Christ as God's final and sufficient revelation

  • Manasseh’s Sin and Repentance: The Reach of God’s Mercy | 2 Chronicles 33
In this episode of Reading the Bible Daily with Dave, we explore the powerful account of King Manasseh a man whose reign began in rebellion and ended in remarkable repentance. Manasseh's story stands as one of the clearest pictures in Scripture of God's mercy reaching even the most sinful heart. Though his early years were marked by idolatry, witchcraft, and bloodshed, the Lord used discipline to humble him. In his distress, Manasseh sought the Lord, and God heard his prayer, restored him, and transformed his life. This passage reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God's grace. His mercy triumphs over judgment, His discipline leads to repentance, and His forgiveness restores the most broken sinner. ________________________________________ Key Takeaways • God's mercy reaches even the worst sinner. • Discipline is an act of grace leading to restoration. • True repentance produces visible fruit and renewed worship. • Every generation must personally respond to God's truth. ________________________________________ For more from Reading the Bible Daily with Dave please visit: https://servantsofgrace.org/reading-the-bible-daily-with-dave/

  • Witchcraft
Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 8 Article 6 How much are the stories of witchcraft real? The sermon explores the theological continuity of salvation across time, affirming that the redemptive benefits of Christ's work were spiritually available to believers in every age through faith in God's promises, types, and sacrifices, even before His incarnation. It emphasizes that faith—not chronological proximity to Christ—unites believers across history, grounding salvation in God's unchanging character and covenant faithfulness. The second part examines 1 Samuel 28, where King Saul, in desperation, consults a medium to summon the dead prophet Samuel, revealing the real and active presence of demonic forces in the world, which the Bible portrays as deceptive, dangerous, and contrary to God's will. The passage warns against seeking spiritual power through occultic means, contrasting the counterfeit power of demons with the true, ordinary means of grace—Scripture, prayer, and obedience—through which God reveals His truth and sustains His people. Ultimately, the sermon calls believers to trust in God's revealed Word, reject the allure of spiritual shortcuts, and remain vigilant against the pervasive, deceptive work of evil, knowing that God's power is supreme and sufficient.

  • Elements of Transformation
The sermon delivers a warning against the pervasive and subtle influence of occultism and witchcraft in modern culture, emphasizing that spiritual forces—particularly elemental spirits personified as dragons—are real and actively at work in media, music, fashion, and even church names that mimic pagan symbols. Drawing from Scripture, especially Job's description of Leviathan, the preacher illustrates the terrifying reality of demonic power and the danger of spiritual deception, particularly through the commodification of spirituality in movements that promote 'authentic community' and 'communitarianism' under the guise of Christian fellowship. He cautions against the normalization of occult imagery in popular entertainment and religious branding, arguing that such symbols—like the four elements—serve as gateways to spiritual manipulation and the eventual rise of the Antichrist. Ultimately, the message calls believers to spiritual vigilance, rooted in the truth of Scripture and the transformative power of being born again by the incorruptible word of God, urging a return to genuine faith over cultural mimicry.

  • Happy Halloween?
This sermon presents a powerful, urgent call to spiritual awakening on the eve of Halloween, reframing the day not as a celebration of darkness but as a divine opportunity for salvation. Centered on the biblical truth that 'today is the day of salvation,' it confronts the cultural embrace of witchcraft, occultism, and demonic themes as abominations to God, warning of their spiritual peril and eternal consequences. The preacher emphasizes that Jesus Christ alone is the way, truth, and life, offering freedom from sin, fear, and death through faith in His atoning sacrifice. With a tone of pastoral urgency and divine love, the message calls all who are ensnared in darkness—especially those drawn to occult practices—to repent, turn to Christ, and be clothed in His righteousness, declaring that the gospel is the only true source of life, healing, and eternal hope.
