11 min - It Talks In Cherokee: The First Telephone Service West Of The Mississippi
Ed Hicks had seen the telephone demonstrated at the St. Louis Exhibition and in 1885 concocted the plan to connect The Cherokee Capital of Tahlequah with the new bustling City of Muskogee by phone line. Traditional members of the tribe wanted to avoid additional incursions of American business and government in their territory, so they were generally opposed to the idea until they learned the new device spoke in Cherokee. withinpodcast.com

13 min - Happy Jack
Jack McLemore was my 9th Grade Science teacher. He had been nick-named Happy Jack by the older boys because, they claimed, he only smiled when dishing out punishment. I was glad to have survived and left his class, but a little re-evaluation made me look at that year with Happy Jack differently. withinpodcast.com

14 min - It's Complicated! Zeke Proctor and the Goingsnake Affair
The location was a quiet schoolhouse on Peacheater Creek in the Old Cherokee Nation, but it became the site of the largest non-military battle in the American West and the deadliest day in the history of the U.S. Marshall Service. The confrontation was caused by a misunderstanding of legal jurisdiction in the murder trial of Zeke Proctor - an issue that reverberates through the hills of Indian Territory to this day! withinpodcast.com

24 min - Hello, It's Me
It's been a long time since I introduced this show to the public and I know that not many heard that first episode (thank goodness!) So, now is just as good a time as any to make a reintroduction into what I'm trying to accomplish with Within The Realm. If you've wondered where I get my take on these things, maybe this will provide a little light. withinpodcast.com
