In your personal reading of Scripture, you always have to choose which translation to read. But which translations are best, and why? This episode overviews Bible translations and the two primary categories of word for word versus thought for thought and approaches for choosing which translation is best for you.

This episode highlights the importance of regular Scripture reading and not depending solely on a weekly "meal" at church. We'll reference a few studies and personal examples alongside Scripture to establish the need for a regular habit of reading.

When Paul the Apostle was on his second missionary journey he encountered a group of Jews who were willing to search the Old Testament Scriptures to see if what he said was legitimate. Today, believers have ready access to the entire Bible and yet we often don't confirm things we see or hear with Scripture. In this episode, you'll be encouraged to make this a practice and in the subsequent episodes we're going to look at how we should go about studying the Bible.

During Jesus' earthly ministry he called many people to follow him. Many followed him immediately, some refused to follow him, and some seemed to be interested but had excuses. However, Jesus was not interested in having followers with other priorities and Christians today have the same mandate for him to be first in their lives. In this episode, we'll look at an instance in Luke's gospel where two men didn't follow Jesus because they had other things to do first.

Now although in Scripture he only prays for one person, it just so happens that it is Saul of Tarsus who becomes the great Apostle Paul. Through his example we can see that numbers are not really a great measure for success as Christians and that we should not look at people as statistics.

One time in the Old Testament King Saul found himself in a hard situation where his obedience to God was tested. Unfortunately, he failed the test. In this week's episode we'll discuss that sometimes desperate times do not call for desperate measures. Instead, for the Christian, obedience to God should always be the primary goal, even during desperate and difficult times.
