September is Deaf awareness month . The month long campaign seeks to educate the public on this important issue. Meanwhile, the Wits Centre for Deaf Studies will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. The centre has been raising awareness around deafness, hearing loss and educating families of deaf and hard of hearing babies on how to communicate with their children.
