The church where Confederate General Robert E. Lee attended during his time in Lexington will no longer bear his name, as of a vote Monday night by the vestry of R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church -- or, Grace Episcopal Church, as it is now called. WMRA's Faith Pinho has the story.

One month ago three people died in Charlottesville in a violent day of white supremacist hatred and violent clashes with counter-protesters. But how does the community heal after such a trauma? Several groups are providing free counseling and wellness services to the residents of Charlottesville who have been affected in one way or another by the violence of that weekend. WMRA’s Marguerite Gallorini has more.

Virginia State Police warn of a new email scam… we have a preview of Tuesday night’s debate between the major party candidates for governor… and, we visit last weekend’s air show near Bridgewater, as a company called Dynamic Aviation celebrates it’s 50 th anniversary….

Last Saturday, Dynamic Aviation hosted a 50th anniversary party open to the public at their company headquarters near Bridgewater. WMRA’s Dillon Broadwell was there to get a glimpse of the little airfield, and what Dynamic Aviation does.

It’s been one month since a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville left three people dead and dozens more injured. The city has since attempted to piece itself back together, realizing that deeper issues are also at play. For a look towards the future, WMRA’s Jordy Yager spoke with educators and teens about their reality.

UVa announces its new president, the ninth in its history… Anthem changes its mind, and says it WILL offer health insurance plans in Virginia under the ACA… and, a new threat to the ongoing recovery of the bald eagle population in Virginia….

Forty years ago, bald eagles were in danger of extinction, but they’ve made a rebound, and theirs is considered an “ Endangered Species Act success story .” But as they spread across Virginia in search of new habitat, they are finding some free lunches that are actually quite costly. UVa says it will donate to a fund helping people injured on August 12 in Charlottesville, in rebuke to the K-K-K… the Virginia Supreme Court has upheld a law that keeps state regulators away from a portion of electric rates… protesters showed up at D-E-Q offices around the state, including the one in Harrisonburg, to make their voices heard against the Atlantic Coast Pipeline….

Across Virginia this week people gathered at offices of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, or DEQ, to voice their concerns and demands about the proposed Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast natural gas pipelines.
