This week we discuss innovation, public speaking and the invention of soup with writer, presenter and comedian James O'Loghlin; author of one of Cub's favourite novels, Daisy Malone and The Blue Glowing Stone.
And check out James' new novel, Criminals, for adult readers.
In this special episode we chat to fantasy writer Stephanie Burgis, author of one of Cub's favourite books, A Most Improper Magick, which we first heard about from Jaclyn Moriarty in season 1. Join us as Steph discusses immersive history, big themes in young reader fiction and a castle in Wales!
Season 3 is finally here!
In the first episode of the new season, Cub looks at conflicts global and personal in Pamela Rushby's Lizzie & Margaret Rose. While Wolf tries (and fails) to explain the plot of Umberto Eco's bizarre historical novel, Baudolino.
It's the last episode of the season, before an indefinite hiatus for Wolf & Cub. In this episode we review the third book from Thomas Taylor's exciting Eerie On Sea series, Shadowghast, and Miles Allinson's brilliant new novel, In Moonland.
Plus, we review our year in reading, hear from Mini Cub, catch up on a bunch of listener questions and a whole lot more.
Thank you for listening.
Almost two decades since it was first published, Cub reviews Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson. Then we speak to the author herself about the genesis of Dragon Keeper, moss, Matthew Flinders' buttons and more!
Wolf is excited as we welcome one of his favourite authors, Miles Allinson, into the den to discuss his newest book, In Moonland, as well as the importance of titles, mid-life crises in children's books and Miles' first foray into fiction for kids.
On this special episode, we team up with Sarah, Jackie and Ros from the Yarra Plenty Regional Library team, and adopt the format of their podcast, In The Good Books.
Join us as we give book recommendations for a YPRL Library member, and discuss libraries, favourite children's books, fast-talking dolphins and, ah, stalking...
The episode host, Sarah Schmidt, is also a published author. Check out her stunning debut novel from a years back, 'See What I Have Done'. Sarah has a new novel coming out soon.
*AUDIO NOTE* We apologise for the poor quality sound on this podcast, mostly caused by an issue on our end. We didn't monitor live, so we found out too late. But we worked too hard on this episode and enjoyed it too much to not publish it, so enjoy it for the content, if not the sound!
In this special edition of Wolf & Cub Review, Mini Cub joins us for the full episode as we review nine non-fiction books in 15 minutes!
From Ripley's Believe It or Not to The Autobiography of Malcolm X, join us for quickfire overviews and ratings of a range of non-fiction books we've enjoyed reading.
This week we look at one of the many hilarious collaborations between Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, The 52-Storey Treehouse. Then it is time for some hard living in Leonard Gardner's only novel, the sublime Fat City.
Also: some loud birds in the background(!), our favourite detective stories, books about sport and a brief appearance from Mini-Cub.
This week Cub sees connections to Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake in David Walliams’ The Midnight Gang. Then things get a bit spooky (it’s Halloween after all) in Georgio De Maria's cult novel, The Twenty Days of Turin.
