Women Have A Place At The Table – Episode 3

Listen Later

Chrissy Holesovsky and I continue in the podcast series called “Women Have A Place At The Table”. We continue discussing the topic of whether or not women can be called to and function as an elder or pastor, and whether or not women should be allowed to preach or teach or be allowed to function in a role in authority over a man. In Episode 3 we look at some New Testament epistles that Paul is sent to churches. In these scripture verse we point out and discuss where Paul identifies and commends different women in the New Testament who are functioning in ministry and leadership roles, like deaconess, apostle, pastoring/elder, and hosting and leading a house church community.

Romans 16:1-2

1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, 2 that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well.

Romans 16:7

Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was.

Romans 16:3-5

3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. 5 Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia.

1Corinthians 16:19

The churches of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Prisca, together with the church in their house, send you hearty greetings in the Lord.

Acts 18:24-26

24 Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Col 4:15

Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house.
