"Radio has never been more Together. We support each other, we work together, we collaborate. [...] Everybody is just together broadcasting, trying to make good content for the listeners, trying to support their communities. It's an amazing industry to be in at any time, but especially right now."

"Si tu veux quelque chose, donne toi les moyens, et j'insiste parce que la persévérance et le travail paient toujours. [...] Mais finalement la vie est courte il faut tenter. Si j'étais capable de renter à Radio France alors je suis capable de faire des choses encore plus intéressantes, ou meme d'autres choses dans le monde de la Technique. Finalement si les autres y sont arrivés, pourquoi pas moi?"

"New voices bring progress to the audio industry, and to any industry. So I feel very strongly in making sure there is equal representation because ultimately it does make the field better when we listen to what other people say and we allow other people to challenge the way we work."

Today's discussion with Mariana Lopez about her senior lecturer role in sound production and post production at the University of York, her research on acoustics and heritage, and sound design and accessibility, and her experience with diversity in the audio industry.

"Gender diversity is something that, as women, and as women leaders, we have a responsibility to improve. (...) We don't have to fix women, we have to make sure that everybody is involved to make the workplace an equal place for everybody."

What do you think is the most important for you to feel confident?

"I think it's a spiral. The more I'm able to show my abilities, the more positive feedback I get. Probably it's respect and positive feedback. [...] But what gives me the most confidence is of course my abilities."

"I always grew up listening to NPR and listening to the Radio with my parents [...] I was interested in media in general, and I really like audio over video... because it's easier. Not just easier, it's easier to tell your story."
