  • Episode 11: Our Movements are the Future

    Welcome Back WoCos and Friends!

    In this episode of the pod, Crystal and Sariah wrap up the Anti-Police Violence Series. We cover how processing police violence and archiving them via the podcast has been a thoughtful and challenging experience. We reflect and process the lessons from our first interview with Carolyn Baker. Furthermore, we offer love letters to various forms of black media that have been bringing us love and libation in this time of change. We conclude with movement updates and visions for our liberatory future.

    We also give space for our name shift. We were formerly known as Womxn of Color Organizing Podcast. Originally we choose to include the “x” in Women to offer space for non-binary identities within our definition of Women. We want to make sure that our podcast name didn’t centralize cis-ness and included non-binary identities. We are evolving as movement language evolves, recently we have been discovering that this term (Womxn) has held negative connotations for some, and we instead will continue to use clear and specific language throughout our pod to name the identities we hold and invite in.

    We thank you for joining us and communing with us as we process, archive, and envision our shared liberatory futures.

    What's Happening, WoCos? In this episode of the podcast, Crystal and Sariah cover a host of topics ranging from navigating through COVID-19 to Big Gretch. Follow us as we archive the changes that are emerging during this time. Episode 7 follows, the local and national response to the crisis of COVID-19, offers a loving critique of “Big Gretch,” and discusses the danger of re-open protests, calls out Tik Tok’s algorithmic oppression, and Black Media (mis)representations. This episode also includes a new section titled Research and Report Back or “R & R,” where we will dedicate a few months to researching various projects of survival. Sariah’s focus for these next few months will be the experiences of farming while black, and Crystal’s topic loosely can be described as collective power building that is forming on the margin of dominant institutions. We conclude not only with our love letters to people, projects, and things that have been offering us reprieve, but also our future visions for this platform.
    Note: As many of you may know, the murder of the Ahmaud Arbery happened recently. Sariah and I have not had the emotional space to process this fully yet. Due to the frequency of white supremacist violence. We don’t know what to offer to folx who are grieving. We enourage folks to check in with friends and loved ones and build community around you as we move through this time.

    1 - This episode was recorded over the course of several sessions and so the audio quality fluctuates a bit different segments it evens out after a while so thank you in advance for rolling with us through that.
