Some people think big, and the Woman's Club of Clayton certainly did when they created a life-sized version of the board game Candy Land in the Main Street Garden in Clayton, North Carolina. I hit the road and visited the Woman's Club of Clayton's historic clubhouse to talk with Melissa Francis, Trish Perna, and Rachel Masimore to learn how they brought this amazing project to life.

In this week’s episode I read the first chapter from the History of the North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs 1901-1925, by Sallie Southall Cotton. She writes about the “…call for emergence from selfish individuality into broader service to the world.”

We speak with Shereá Denise Burnett of the Burlington Junior Woman’s Club about how she started a Virtual Reading Series that focused on authors of color that wrote about children of color or had illustrations that were children of color.

She shares with us information about the organization, why she became a member, some of her favorite projects and the impact they’ve had, skills women develop through volunteer service, and the support her administration is providing to the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum.
