Have you ever had a moment when something just… registered?
Something was said or happened. Something changed. You couldn’t necessarily explain it, and you certainly couldn’t prove anything was wrong. Yet, something inside of you said, Hmm.
Was it a red flag? Were you overreacting? Were you being too sensitive? Was it your past talking? Was it fear? Was it discernment? Or was something happening right in front of you that deserved more attention than you were willing to give it?
Sometimes the red flags aren’t hidden. We explain them away.
But why? Why can we be so quick to question what we see, feel, or experience? Why do some of us give everyone else the benefit of the doubt while putting our own perceptions on trial? What happens when your no is challenged—and suddenly you find yourself explaining, defending, reconsidering, and eventually talking yourself out of a decision you were perfectly comfortable with before someone pushed back?
What happens when you do that often enough?
Can repeatedly overriding yourself actually affect your ability to trust yourself? Can a desire to be gracious cause you to overlook a pattern? How do you distinguish fear from wisdom, anxiety from discernment, an isolated incident from something you genuinely need to pay attention to?
Perhaps an even more revealing question: What happens when you address something that bothered you? Can the relationship tolerate your honesty? Can you say no without being punished for it? Can you express hurt without ending up defending your right to be hurt? Can you establish a boundary without being made to feel guilty for having one?
In today’s episode of Women, Wounds & Wake-Up Calls, Juanita Price takes us into a candid conversation about The Danger of Ignoring Red Flags, including what happens when we repeatedly override ourselves, why every uncomfortable feeling isn’t necessarily a warning, and why a red flag doesn’t always mean run but may mean it’s time to slow down, look closer, and pay attention.
Afterwards, we turn to a reading from Women, Wounds & Wake-Up Calls: Unlearning What Our Need for Love, Approval & Belonging Has Cost Us.
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”
So grab your coffee. Grab your tea. Settle in.
And let’s talk about red flags.
