In this episode the host Jason B. Godoy talks about his fears as he gets closer to going back to work. He discusses how after having been on disability for almost 6 months to recover his broken elbow Jason had a travel bug and an itch to do a solo vacation before going back to work. Jason gets vulnerable with his fears around not having traveled the entire 6 months he was on disability explaining how my imagination really had me believing if my employer found out I would immediately lose my job. In order to go back to work in 2 weeks confident, happy, rejuvenated, focused and full of Wonder it was a necessity that Jason found a way to get past his fears of traveling while on disability and taking a true vacation. In this episode I share with you an exercise that I used simply called "exploring fear" to dig deep into my fear, figure out what it was stopping me from doing, determining if this was a good or bad fear and cultivating a new vision and commitment around what I ultimately wanted.
Here is the exercise: (Exploring Fear)
1.) What am I afraid of?
2.) What is this stopping me from doing?
3.) Why is this a good thing?
4.) Why is this a bad thing?
5.) Does the good in this situation outweigh the bad? Or does the bad outweigh the good?
6.) Would your life be better off without pursing the thing your afraid of or worse off?
7.) Is it worth it to try this thing that you are afraid of?
8.) How can you ensure the bad things in this situation don't come to fruition?
9.) What are you committed to making happen?
Had I not done this exercise and explored my fear of traveling while on disability I would have not traveled this week and when I returned back to work in 2 weeks I would be frustrated, upset with myself, bored, have 0 wonder, tired, irritated and just lacking overall focus and energy to do my job effectively. Had I not taken this vacation all of this feelings I would have harbored probably would have caused me to make mistakes and perform my job functions poorly anyway which is ultimately what allowed me to push past my fears and pursue my hearts desires.
