May is Mothers Day Month and we will be speaking about and to Mothers in many situations.
This Episode tells the stories of several Old Testament Mothers. They have lessons to teach us about many of the issues that we face today. Standing up to authority, dealing with unjust or immoral laws and perseverance in the face of rejection and deprivation are just a few of the situations that Jochebed, Leah and Hannah faced. There are also Shiprah and Puah. These midwives were initially childless themselves, yet they had compassion and the fear of the Lord which caused them to help women keep their male newborns from immediate death by murder. They were later blessed with children of their own because of their courageous acts.
Of the 5 women listed in the genealogy of Jesus, only one of them was considered pure and spotless by God.
The other four were stained and scarred by life, generally at the hands of others. In the outcome of the life of each of these women, we get to see God's Mercy on a precious and gentle way.
From each of these lives are many lessons in courage, bravery and how to trust in God's care.
While there are many powerful women who were leaders in the Old Testament Scriptures, These three women lived through significant life circumstances that are like the situations that many women face today. We take a brief look at Miriam, Deborah and Abigail and we learn invaluable lessons about taming our aspirations, taking on the life tasks that we are assigned and tempering our words as we take courageous action.
We have much to learn from the women whose lives we are considering in this episode. They were wives and mothers, single and married, sisters and widows, promiscuous and pious. They all faced challenges. They all had fears and cares. Some were courageous and some were timid. They were all just like many of us! There are 10 lessons that we can learn from this look at the lives of some of the the women close to the Cross.
Although my sister is no longer alive and although she was much younger, she taught me much - both by her words and by how she chose to live. Her words and her example will live on in my memory and in my heart and in her three daughters.
Godmothers are those women who step in to give you their guidance when your own mother is unavailable to guide you.
These 4 women did exactly that in my life - they stepped in! Sometimes the guidance came during my mother's lifetime and sometimes that guidance came after she passed away. That guidance was often modeled and not directly spoken to.
The wisdom of these four Godmothers has benefitted me tremendously and I am eternally grateful to each of them and for their influence in my life!
For Women's History month, I continue the theme of lessons from the great women in my life by sharing lessons from my Grandmothers.
Again, this episode is in 4 segments you will hear the music change. That way you can listen to each at your leisure! Enjoy the stories AND Learn the lessons from the Wonderful Womanly Wisdom of my grandmothers!
Life Lessons that have stood the test of time in my life and that will surely help everyone who listens improve the quality of their lives as well.
