If you find yourself yearning for greater depth in your relationship with God and other believers but always seem to be too depleted to add anything else to your schedule, you may be suffering from the aftermath of spiritual busywork. In this week's episode, Mike and Nate discuss how revival is stirring outside of the church in America and what that should mean for those of us who are currently involved in our local churches.
Too often Western Church culture attempts to spread its reach wide without considering what that means for our souls if we don't establish a culture of depth first. If the traditions of church, Wednesday night gatherings, and every well intentioned yet misguided outreach attempt are filling our calendars in a way that doesn't allow for us to grow in maturity first, then we will miss greater opportunities to participate in the revival that is happening around us. If our calendars remain so full of commitments about God but deprive us of being with him, we will find ourselves lacking in truth and an intimate awareness of scripture while elevating the continued adaptation of tradition.
Although tradition and the local church are not the enemy, if we continue to allow the church to force feed new believers activity over invitation into maturity, the Western Evangelical Church is destined to only sink further into depravity and a lack of ability to meet new believers in the midst of their deepest questions. Tradition is not synonymous with biblical truth!
