  • Husbands, love your wives
    “Husbands, love…”
    Original language: ________________
Main emphasis of this passage for husbands:
What action comes immediately after “_____________________________”? - what did Christ do?
Main characteristic of Christ’s love is “____________________________”.
Please, remember it this way: I get to love my wife in the same _______________ Christ loved the church, not for the same __________________.
Main actions Christ performed toward his bride.
Aside to wives: _____________ for your husband in his main role: ______________________ love.
Resist the temptation to ______________________ your husband against the actions of Christ in this passage.
    Look for
    ________________ Christ has already done.
________________ Christ has done these things.
    Main (________________) command for husbands.
Therefore, “________________ are husbands to love their wives like Christ loved the church?”
    A few practical suggestions:
#1 Make an accurate assessment of your ________________
    #2 ________________ to ask good ________________
#3 ________________ in your ________________ and ability to effectively communicate
    Larger context
    Eph. 5:1-2 - ________________God
Eph. 4:1-3 - ________________ your daily walk in light of your responsibility and opportunity to love your wife sacrificially
Work together to list out the ________________ and blessings you have because you are “in Christ”, from Eph.1-3, and then ask:
“Why does this matter to me as a husband?”, or “Why does this matter to me as a wife?”
“What should I do about in response?” (start; stop; continue)
    QUESTIONS for DISCUSSION:
Before today if I was to ask your wife, “What does your husband take joy in?”, how would she answer that question? If I were to ask your children “What does your dad delight in?”, how would they answer that question? What about a business associate? What tone of voice do you use when you talk about your wife?
If we are to love our wives as Christ loved the church, what other action words are there in this passage that we could potentially emphasize? What should wives do as they consider their husband's main responsibility according to this passage? What should wives not do?
If you are a Christian, should you be growing and changing - even if the changes and growth are so slight that it is hard to see on a daily basis? Was there a season in your life where you got to know your wife very very well?  Can you get by in your daily life as a husband with only the knowledge you gained back then?

Which issues do you confront and which issues do you cover with love? How do we determine what we should address, or not?

Ask your spouse: “What words do I commonly use that you would prefer I stop using?”
