  • The Danger Of Being Accusing
    2 Samuel 10:1-14 (ESV)
    1) After this the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
    2) And David said, “I will deal loyally with Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father dealt loyally with me.” So David sent by his servants to console him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the Ammonites.
    3) But the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think, because David has sent comforters to you, that he is honoring your father? Has not David sent his servants to you to search the city and to spy it out and to overthrow it?”
    4) So Hanun took David's servants and shaved off half the beard of each and cut off their garments in the middle, at their hips, and sent them away.
    5) When it was told David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, “Remain at Jericho until your beards have grown and then return.”
    6) When the Ammonites saw that they had become a stench to David, the Ammonites sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, 20,000 foot soldiers, and the king of Maacah with 1,000 men, and the men of Tob, 12,000 men.
    7) And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the host of the mighty men.
    8) And the Ammonites came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the gate, and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the open country.
    9) When Joab saw that the battle was set against him both in front and in the rear, he chose some of the best men of Israel and arrayed them against the Syrians.
    10) The rest of his men he put in the charge of Abishai his brother, and he arrayed them against the Ammonites.
    11) And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
    12) Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the LORD do what seems good to him.”
    13) So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.
    14) And when the Ammonites saw that the Syrians fled, they likewise fled before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab returned from fighting against the Ammonites and came to Jerusalem.

  • The Gospel Illustrated – Part II
    2 Samuel 9:1-13 (ESV)
    1) And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?”
    2) Now there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David. And the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” And he said, “I am your servant.”
    3) And the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in his feet.”
    4) The king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “He is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, at Lo-debar.”
    5) Then King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, at Lo-debar.
    6) And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. And David said, “Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.”
    7) And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.”
    8) And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?”
    9) Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master's grandson.
    10) And you and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him and shall bring in the produce, that your master's grandson may have bread to eat. But Mephibosheth your master's grandson shall always eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
    11) Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so will your servant do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David's table, like one of the king's sons.
    12) And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. And all who lived in Ziba's house became Mephibosheth's servants.
    13) So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, for he ate always at the king's table. Now he was lame in both his feet.

Ephesians 5:22-24 22) Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23) For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24) Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

    Romans 5:12-14 (ESV)
    12) Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned-
    13) for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
    14) Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
    Romans 8:14-17 (ESV)
    14) For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
    15) For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
    16) The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
    17) and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

Ephesians 5:27-33 27) so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28) In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29) For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30) because we are members of his body. 31) “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32) This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33) However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. 1 Peter 3:7 7) Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

  • Victories Given By God
    2 Samuel 8:1-14 (ESV)
    1) After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.
    2) And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
    3) David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.
    4) And David took from him 1,700 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left enough for 100 chariots.
    5) And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians.
    6) Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.
    7) And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.
    8) And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.
    9) When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer,
    10) Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze.
    11) These also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued,
    12) from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
    13) And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
    14) Then he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.

  • Implications Of The Resurrection
    Romans 6:3-12
    3) Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
    4) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
    5) For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
    6) Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
    7) For he that is dead is freed from sin.
    8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
    9) Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
    10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
    11) Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

  • A Thankful Heart
    2 Samuel 7:18-29
    18) Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my
house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
    19) And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
    20) And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.
    21) For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
    22) Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
    23) And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before
thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
    24) For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.
    25) And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.
    26) And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.
    27) For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
    28) And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
    29) Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.
