“Table Talk” Discussion Questions (Ephesians 1:15-23)

    1. Which of the things that Paul prayed (Eph. 1:15-23) could you use most in your life right now? What intentional steps are you taking now in your life to “know him better”?

    2. In verses 20-22, what do we learn about Christ? Where do you need the “incomparably great power” of God to be at work in the coming week?

    3. How would your church change if you prayed verses 17-19 for one another? Your Bible Study Connections class? Your family? Your personal prayer life and devotion?

    4. When you think about typical prayer meetings/prayer requests, what kinds of requests are brought up? How are Paul’s petitions for the believers in Ephesus different?

    5. How is Paul’s view of the church different from the view taken by most Christians today? What would happen if we took a high view of the church as the Bride and Body of Christ Jesus? What would change in your life?

“Table Talk” Discussion Questions (Ephesians 1:3-14)
    1. Describe a time when you were selected to a team, a performance, a class, or a specific task. (Alternative: Describe a time when some part of your life/career/education went exactly how you planned it. Describe a time when it went completely different than how you had it planned.)

    2. How would you explain to a non-Christian what Christ did to accomplish your redemption?

    3. Explain the importance of “when you believed” in verse 13 in light of the context of verses 3-14.

    4. Using concepts from this text, explain who the Holy Spirit is and summarize His role in Salvation. From this passage, what are the spiritual blessings in Christ? Which of these blessings is most meaningful to you?

    5. Sometimes words from the Biblical text like “chosen,” “predestined,” “adopted,” can divide Christians in their theological standing. How are these words positive and unifying for believers (v. 10)? Why do you think Paul warns Timothy about “quarreling about words” in 2 Timothy 2:14-16?

    6. What does this passage say about worship? How does it move you to praise God?

“Table Talk” Discussion Questions (Ephesians 1:1-2)

    1. Who was the last person to send you a hand-written letter? Do you look forward to checking the mailbox? What type of mail do you receive most (bills, letters/cards, e-mails, online purchases, etc.)?

    2. In your own words, describe Paul’s testimony. How does Paul’s testimony compare to yours; what are the similarities/differences?

    3. Have you ever felt your testimony is insignificant? How does Paul addressing the letter to the “faithful Saints in Ephesus” change your perspective on your testimony?

    4. How are grace and peace related? Why are they central in the Christian message?

    5. Take some time this week to write a hand-written letter to some-one that needs to be encouraged in the peace and grace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
