In the midst of life's hardships and the rush of the holiday season, where can we find hope amid the dark moments? We are beginning our Advent series, Radiant, unpacking how Christ holds the hope and light we desperately need. Maybe you're feeling hopeless this Christmas season, life has you down, and it feels like nothing will bring you the hope you need. There are two promises entwined in the book of Isaiah chapter 9, that we will look at today. With Jesus, our gloom is overcome with glory and our darkness is overcome with light. We are promised transformation and freedom in Christ when we turn from our sinful ways. The light of Jesus is undeniable, it permeates every part of our lives and has the power to bring us out of depths of gloom. Join us this Christmas season as we jump into a new series. Who are you sharing the Gospel with in your everyday life? Maybe you are more reserved when it comes to spreading the love of Christ or maybe it's something that comes naturally to you, either way scripture tells us about the joy it brings to communities when it is shared. This Sunday, we will hear from Pastor Chris about sharing the joy of the Gospel. In the church, it's important for us to have leaders who teach the Gospel and members who take the Gospel and to share it with neighbors who need the Gospel. Last week we talked about how we tend to revert to our old passions and desires and indulge in our flesh. And the way to combat that is to walk with the spirit and bear the fruit of Jesus Christ. This week we are finishing our study through the book of Galatians, learning the Good News of Christ and the freedom found in salvation through Jesus. In the final chapter, Paul addresses the church urging them to keep each other accountable and to bear one another's burdens. As we strive to walk in the Gospel we must keep in step with God's spirit. We can do this by immersing ourselves in Christ-centered community and freedom. God gave us the gift of fellowship; we have each other to lean on and to have accountability as we walk in the light of God's spirit.  How do we walk with the Spirit? Is it as simple as walking and the Spirit joins us? In a way, it is as simple as that, but if we want to live lives liberated from the law and walk in the freedom of Christ, there are a few other steps we have to take. Today we continue in our message series in Galatians, Good News, diving into what it means to be free in Christ. Before we come to know Christ, we long to gratify our desires, our flesh. We live with internal passions to be fulfilled; every time we fulfill them, they grow. Once we have come to know Jesus and accepted Him as our Savior, we learn that those in Christ have crucified their flesh along with their passions and desires. Yet, we still may experience these desires from our old life. So, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, Jesus points out a few steps we should take as we walk alongside Him. We must recognize that we have an inner struggle that goes towards fulfilling our flesh, we should acknowledge the fruit that is growing in our life and put our flesh to death in Christ Jesus. When we walk with the Spirit and crucify our flesh, we will see godly attributes growing in our lives like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Have you found yourself reverting back to old habits and places of comfortability? Often this reversion happens because of our innate sin nature pushing us back into our old ways--but when we are in Christ we are called to freedom. Maybe you fall into the state of mind that you can be sufficient on your own and do it all on your own, Jesus deeply desires us to reject this thinking and stand firm in His freedom for us—the freedom of the Gospel. We are continuing in our Galatians series, Good News, studying the freedom from the law and security found in the Gospel. When we find ourselves going back to our old ways, habits, or sins, it's as if we are re-enslaving ourselves to the law and forfeiting our liberty in Jesus. Paul shows us that we lose the benefits of Christ, the scandal of the cross, and the motivation to love when we revert to the law and believe the lie that we can do it all on our own efforts. In some ways freedom is scary, we can find comfort in thinking that our faith is based on works, but Jesus is desiring us to know in deep ways that our faith is based solely by believing in the Gospel and accepting Christ as our Savior. Jesus saved us by grace alone, despite our flaws and shortcomings, He loves us deeply. We would be foolish to go back to the law and abandon a gracious Gospel and loving Father. Where can you find true freedom? Have you found yourself searching for something that will satisfy the longing in your heart? Today, we are continuing in ourGood News series, revealing the goodness of the Gospel. In Christ, we get to experience the truest form of freedom, eternal joy in Him. We are promised of this truth, within His word are several points and promises from Christ that reveal His ultimate desire—to save and free us from the law and burden of sin. In the depths of your souls, maybe you felt a stirring, or deep longing for something more, to be freed. When we enter in relationship with Jesus and put our trust in His Gospel, we get to step into the freedom He promises us. Jesus states that we are children of the promise and free in Christ. The law before Christ brought slavery, but the Gospel brings freedom, and we should stand firm in that freedom. We can’t muster this freedom on our own, it’s a gift given through Christ alone. As Christians, how does the Gospel form us? Maybe this question has crossed your mind or maybe it hasn’t, the formation we go through in Christ is an ongoing process. This week we continue in our series, Good News, studying the Gospel and how it shapes our lives. As we seek after Christ and are continually molded by Him, we are given three action steps. We are to remember our former bondage—where we were before Christ, return to our former zeal, and receive Christ’s formative work. When we allow ourselves to be formed by the Gospel, we experience the freedom that can only come when we are in Christ. Our Savior renews us each day, as we surrender ourselves to His work and give Him the space to shape and form us.
