C-U-E

an action or event that is a signal for somebody to do something

  1. Jon's arrival was a cue for more champagne.
  2. Bursts of dopamine are released when unexpected cues that signal rewards are encountered. 


#malleable

M-A-L-L-E-A-B-L-E

(of metal, etc.) that can be hit or pressed into different shapes easily without breaking or cracking / (of people, ideas, etc.) easily influenced or changed

  1. Lead and tin are malleable metals.
  2. While some of our desires may be hardwired, most are learned and are very malleable.


#anticipate

A-N-T-I-C-I-P-A-T-E

to expect something

  1. We anticipate that sales will rise next year.
  2. The chemical Dopamine signals the difference between the amount of reward anticipated and the actual amount of reward in the world at a given moment.


#associate

A-S-S-O-C-I-A-T-E

to make a connection between people or things in your mind

  1. I always associate the smell of baking with my childhood.
  2. Through repeated drug use, environmental cues become associated with drug-taking,

to make something happen suddenly

  1. The incident triggered protests across the country.
  2. Eventually, these cues in the environment start to trigger cravings.
