The things I teach as a math tutor

#arithmetic A-R-I-T-H-M-E-T-I-C

The branch of mathematics dealing with the properties and manipulation of numbers.

  1. If you want to improve your arithmetic skills, put down the calculator and solve the problems yourself.
  2. The arithmetic mean of 2, 4, and 8 is 14/3, while the geometric mean is 4.

#algebra A-L-G-E-B-R-A

The part of mathematics in which letters and other general symbols are used to represent numbers and quantities in formulae and equations.

  1. In the algebra world, a circle is represented by the equation x2 + y2 = 1.
  2. A good algebra foundation will aid you in understanding science quantitatively.

#geometry G-E-O-M-E-T-R-Y

The branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, angle, surfaces, and solids; surface shape.

  1. Solving geometry problems becomes a lot easier when you draw out the figures.
  2. A gem needs to be cut into appropriate geometry to give out its max brilliance.

#abstract A-B-S-T-R-A-C-T

Existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence.

  1. I can visualize three-dimensional objects, but the fourth and higher dimensions are too abstract for me to imagine.
  2. This idea is kind of abstract, could you show me some real-life examples?
