  1. The invading forces wanted to overwhelm their targets by numbers and quick action.
  2. Overwhelmed by precision weaponry, the once hunters are now being hunted down.

A military blockade of a city or fortified place to compel it to surrender

  1. The siege of Mariupol, which caused the death of 25000 civilians and devastated 95% of the city, was described as apocalyptic by the Red Cross.
  2. When a city is under siege, the inside wants to get out while the outside wants to break in.
