There are two kinds of wisdom - but only one of them is really wisdom. We get it from Jesus, Mr Wisdom and it makes us more like him and at its heart is being humble.

How dangerous our tongues can be. How we need Jesus to forgive us for our wrong words and to give us the strength to tame our tongues. Let's make our speech a priority in being like Jesus. What a difference that will make!

Faith in Jesus show itself as it with Abraham and Rahab. James wants his readers to have a saving faith that says "Jesus is Lord" rather than a dead faith which even demons have!

Loving God means loving our neighbour. That's what we have been saved to do. Loving our neighbour as ourselves safeguards us against selfishly showing favouritism. When we get hold of what we have been forgiven, we will be forgivers.

Showing favouritism is actually very selfish and turns us into judges. May we be like Jesus who ate and drank with tax collectors and sinners so that our church showcases the love of Jesus to the community.

Trials squeeze us and reveal what is in our hearts as words start to flow. May God help us to look into his word and do it so that our hearts and lives become more like Jesus.

Being poor and being rich both have their challenges. God is the giver of good gifts. May he help us to persevere in trials and not turn to wrong things, remembering the hope that we have in Jesus of the life to come.

Trials are an opportunity for us to grow as we cry out to our Father for wisdom that he is only too willing to give.

The psalms help us to fix our eyes on Jesus - all of our church singing should focus on him - his life, death, resurrection and the fact that he is coming again. Jesus is our living hope!

The LORD never plays down our suffering - he draws near and understands because he entered right into our suffering. Jesus, God with us, suffered and died at the hands of wicked leaders who bribed people to get Jesus condemned. He is a refuge for the oppressed and one day will get rid of all terror.
