    We continue with the our cult studies on Mormonism, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bern promises a scriptural and fair critique, asserting that the world needs the original New Testament church—not the Latter-day Saints—due to widespread end-times apostasy. A central Mormon belief is that all other churches are in apostasy, with theirs being the sole truth.


    Bern outlines Mormonism’s origin, traditionally taught as founded by Joseph Smith Jr., who claimed divine revelation from an angel named Moroni. These revelations, allegedly found on brass plates at Cumorah Hill in Palmyra, NY, became the Book of Mormon—considered scripture by Mormons but viewed by biblical scholars as contradictory to the Bible.


    Bern presents an alternate origin, calling Mormonism a deliberate scam by Sidney Rigdon, Joseph Smith Jr., and Parley Pratt. He portrays Rigdon as a self-serving preacher with ties to polygamous groups, Smith as an uneducated storyteller from a family of mediums, and Pratt as a polygamist who died violently. Bern references a novel, Manuscript Found, written by Solomon Spalding, which he claims was the true source of the Book of Mormon. He says the manuscript was rebranded by Smith and company as divine revelation.


    Bern frames Mormonism as spiritual deception, equating it with witchcraft, and claims Smith was a "hereditary witch" chosen by Satan. Bern states the Book of Mormon borrows heavily from Spalding’s manuscript, with townspeople recognizing similarities. He argues that understanding this background is key to ministering to Mormons.


    Bern criticizes the Mormon portrayal of Jesus as a false Christ—"another Jesus"—referencing Paul's warnings. He describes casting out what he calls demonic spirits linked to false doctrine, emphasizing the spiritual battle against deception. Mormonism, he argues, uses Christian language and symbols but promotes fundamentally unbiblical beliefs.


    He highlights Lorenzo Snow’s doctrinal statement: "As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become," illustrating the Mormon belief in human deification. He lists their scriptures, including the Bible, Book of Mormon, and others, asserting only the Bible is divinely inspired.


    Mormon theology, Bern explains, teaches that gods and goddesses procreate spirit children; that Elohim had celestial intercourse with a heavenly wife and later Mary to birth Jesus; and that God was once a man. He contrasts this with the biblical view of God as eternal, singular, and spirit—not flesh and bone.


    He counters Mormon doctrines using scripture:


    • Deut. 6:4, Isa. 43:10, and Mark 12:29 affirm God's oneness.
    • John 4:24 and Num. 23:19 deny God is physical or manlike.
    • Rom. 1:22-23 condemns trading God’s glory for man’s image.
    • John 1:1, John 20:28, and Phil. 2:9-11 affirm Jesus’ divinity and unity with God.
    • 2 Cor. 3:17-18 and Acts 5:3-4 confirm the Spirit is God.


      • Bern concludes that Mormon theology is incompatible with biblical truth, asserting the Godhead is one Spirit, not three separate gods. He urges believers to confront false doctrines with scripture, declaring the Bible as the sole source of divine truth.

      Jehovah's Witnesses operate as a cult, not a Christian denomination, due to their doctrinal deviations.

      Here's a summary of the refuted Jehovah's Witness doctrines:

      • Watchtower Society as the Voice of God: Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Watchtower Society is the voice of God, a claim not supported by the Bible. The speaker also notes that the Watchtower Society has made four publicly announced prophecies about the coming of Christ and the end of the world, all of which were 100% erroneous, leading to the conclusion that they are false prophets according to biblical standards.
      • God's Name and Salvation: Jehovah's Witnesses believe God's name is Jehovah, and its correct use is necessary for salvation, rather than salvation being through Jesus. The speaker argues that the word "Jehovah" is an Anglicized form of the Hebrew "Yahweh" or "Yave," and that salvation is through Jesus Christ, as stated in Romans 10:13 (referring to Jesus as "Lord") and Acts 16:31.
         
      • Nature of Christ: Jehovah's Witnesses teach that Christ was the firstborn of all creation and is Michael the Archangel, and that Jesus is not to be worshiped like the Father.           Bern examines 22 signs of a cult:


          1. Exclusive doctrine not found in scripture.

          4. Extra-biblical revelation (revelation outside the Bible).
             
          5. Presumptuous leadership that displaces the Holy Spirit's role.

          7. Syncretism (mixing pagan and divine elements).
             
          8. Scripture twisting for doctrinal advantage.
             
          9. Mind control through fear or doctrinal programming.
             
          10. Absurd lies perpetrated as truth.
             
          11. Trafficking in the souls of men.
             
          12. Absolute submission to human authority and doctrines of men.
             
          13. A false gospel or "another gospel".
             
          14. Presence of a religious spirit.
             
          15. Presence of a spirit of antichrist.
             
          16. Presence of a pharisaical spirit.
             
          17. Presence of a Jezebel spirit.
             
          18. Presence of a control spirit.
             
          19. Presence of the spirit of error.

This study also addresses understanding individuals caught in cults, noting they often do not understand the sole authority of God's Word (Sola Scriptura) and rely on traditions or human interpretations. Their belief system may represent a lifetime investment, making it difficult for them to accept they could be wrong. They may use tactics like defining discussion terms or claiming interpretations are subjective to avert hearing the truth.


            Finally, ten principles for deprogramming are given:


            1. Take them to an authoritative literal translation of the Bible.
               
            2. Pray beforehand for the Holy Spirit to prepare their heart and mind.
               
            3. Show them what scripture says about its own authority (e.g., 2 Timothy 3:16, John 17:17, Numbers 23:19).
               
            4. Ask them "what is being said here by the Holy Spirit?" to encourage their own thinking.
               
            5. Be patient and loving.
               
            6. Emphasize that the words are from the Holy Spirit, not you.
               
            7. Ask strategic questions about their doctrines' origins.
               
            8. Bring them to the Bible to show what scripture says about their beliefs.
               
            9. Take time, covering hardcore doctrines first to dismantle the belief system's infrastructure.
               
            10. Undermine the authority of their doctrine, source of truth, and false leadership using the Word of God.

                • Ingrained beliefs: Lifelong teachings make them resistant to new ideas.
                • Deep investment: Their identity or career may be tied to the group.
                • Tactics to avoid truth: They may redefine terms, dismiss Scripture, or claim subjective interpretation.
                • Brainwashing: Indoctrination is gradual, persistent, and difficult to undo.
                • Pre-programmed responses: Members are trained to deflect objections instinctively.
