The Jonah-talk continues this week as Andrew and Josiah flesh out last Sunday’s look at chapter 3. The conversation includes musings on the prophet's lacklustre sermon, the repentance of Nineveh, and how we, as God's people today, can strive to react to "outsiders" in our lives with hearts more like God's than like Jonah's.
If you missed it, the sermon in question can be found right here.
Finally, at long last, Andrew is able to carve enough time out of his busy (fatherhood) schedule to sit down again with Josiah for a chat. On the docket this week is an initial discussion on the prodigal and pious prophet, Jonah, and his disobedient flight and hypocritical prayer recorded for us in the opening two chapters of the Old Testament book bearing his name.
If you missed the sermons to which this discussion refers, please find them here and here.
As COVID-19 has forced churches re-think how they meet, function, and minister, it's a good time for church-goers to re-think the purpose, necessity, and theology of church itself. In this series of conversations, Josiah chats with his friend from across the country, Pastor Jay Hinds, about the topic of ecclesiology, its importance, and its prominence in the life of God's people.
Many Christians rightly identify the goal of parenting as raising children "in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Eph 6:4). This assignment is often coupled with the proverbial statement that if we "train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Prov 22:6). The problem is, they sometimes do. There are occasions when, in spite of parental vigilance and effort, children abandon "the way." How can parents cope with that heartbreak? Is there anything that can be done to bring kids back into the fold? This week Josiah chats with his mom, Cynthia, about her experiences in parenting a wayward child.
This week Josiah has a chat with Dr. Rick Reed, a long-time pastor and now-president of Heritage College and Seminary in Cambridge, Ontario. Because of his unique combination of experiences in both worlds, Dr. Reed is uniquely qualified to speak to how the theological institution can—and should—support the local church to accomplish her God-given mission in this world. They also talk about possible storm clouds gathering on the horizon for Canadian Christians and churches.
This week Josiah welcomes Dr. Christopher Cone to the podcast for a (long) chat about the always-important topic of assurance of salvation. Dr. Cone has been the president of multiple theological institutions, he’s a professor, a preacher, and a churchmen. He has three (!?!) earned doctoral degrees, has written, contributed to, or edited nearly twenty books and currently serves as the president and CEO of AgathonEDU Educational Group.
Instructions and blessings, "coincidences" and sovereignty; there's a lot going on in the book of Ruth! Join with Pastor Andrew as he invites Lew for a discussion on this beloved little Old Testament book and what we can learn for the here and now.
Can I ask you a question?” It’s with those six simple, unassuming words that Josiah’s guest today has initiated countless conversations with the purpose of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Dr. Larry Moyer, founder and CEO of EvanTell Ministries, shares with us today his heart for the lost, his commitment to clarity and simplicity in sharing the faith, and his advice on how we too can grow in our effectiveness in evangelism.
There are few more foundational issues with which every person must wrestle than those of personal identity. Who am I? Why am I here? Do I matter at all? This week, Josiah logs-on with his friend, Sten-Erik Armitage, seminary professor and senior pastor, to discuss how a Christian, because of their relationship to God in Christ Jesus, can—and should—answer such questions and how this reality changes everything.
As Christians, and as churches, we have three main God-given objectives: To worship him, to become more like him, and to reach people for him. Today on the podcast Josiah and Stephen, a longtime missionary with Operation Mobilization, discuss how we can be faithful to that third task, that is, reaching people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Inso doing, Stephen shares his perspective on missionary work, his heart for lost people, and his experiences in the field.
