I write this with a heavy heart this morning. My wife of 49 years, Teresa, is in the hospital in serious condition. Yesterday she was fine, and we had our morning coffee and talked for a couple hours as usual and then she took her shower, got dressed, and sat down to put her makeup on. Suddenly she began violently coughing and had trouble breathing. She went and laid down for a moment and I rushed to her side and she said her chest was very tight and was “rattling” when she breathed. Yesterday a friend and I went to the Bahamas in my boat. We’d heard reports that yellowfin tuna were around and we wanted in on the action. The weather was predicted to be good with 3-4 foot seas and 10-15 knot winds. The weatherman was drastically wrong. About midway on the trip the wind started picking up as did the waves. I’ve been bouncing off the walls with the coronavirus lockdown while my wife contentedly plays computer games and reads books. I don’t like computer games and I’m sick of reading. I’ve resorted to talking to my dog out of loneliness to talk to someone other than on the phone. After days of planning, charting a course, loading fishing tackle, water, and bagging ice I was all set to cross the Gulf Stream and fish an area close to the Bahamas Saturday. I read an interesting poll the other day that stated: “By many accounts, Americans are living in contentious times. Yet they report being happier in 2017 than they were in 2016, according to the 2017 Harris Poll Survey of American Happiness.” That’s not to say that Americans are especially happy overall; only 33% of Americans surveyed said they were happy in 2017. The results of my MRI were excellent. I dodged yet another bullet and am good to go. The 7mm spot they found on my liver with a CAT scan turned out to be a blood vessel and is nothing abnormal. When we consider the Ten Commandments the very first commandment insists that [followers] must worship and adore God ALONE. (Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20: 3.) I assume that since this commandment is listed first, that it is the most important of all commandments.
