I was talking to one of my fishing buddies about growing old and I told him that when I was young, I couldn’t wait to get older, but this isn’t what I expected. He told me that I really wasn’t that old. The players on the losing team understandably appeared dejected and somber, except for one player. He was sitting on the bench with a big wide grin on his face. I got an interesting letter the other day from a longtime reader. The gist is as follows: “There is no rapture . . . Darby and Scofield have it wrong . . . Yesterday I had surgery on my back for a malignant skin cancer and if that wasn’t bad enough, he found two more places on my face that he biopsied of which he said he is “deeply concerned“. That is in addition to the 20 some odd places he burned off my arms, back, face, and neck, with liquid nitrogen. My skin is a mess and there are more potential killer barnacles on it now than ever. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if skin cancer takes me out.
