You know, it doesn't matter what industry you are in, they are all filled with people. It is the nature of the beast that some of those people are just more talented, motivated, a natural, whatever it is but there is a certain percentage that is just all around better. Sherman is not one of those, just kidding bro!
You have probably heard the 80/20 rule. 20% of your people will typically do 80% of your work. This is not true in our industry but there are still ones who for some reason are just badass! If there was just a certification for that! It has been said that we have about 15% of the membership are top performers, there are some who we drag along with us, and the rest are all solid contributors so that blows out the 80/20 rule but the thought process is similar.
According to Michael Freeland, North Mechanical has a Special Projects Division that they put on some of the projects that are in between service calls and contract jobs. Kind of like Fitter Special Forces.
Check out this episode and get a little info on that, where Michael started out, and then if you stick around to the end we get into a little of Eddie's experiences. Throughout the episode though, we are not bashful when it comes to pickin' on each other!
Don't forget to check out the website, Working Game Podcast. We are working on getting an online application set up for the apprenticeship. The hidden agenda is to get people in the trade and cover the massive amount of work that is in the near future, so come on, get in, let's do this! If you need help finding a local near you, go to UA.org, there are contacts for locals across the country there.

Git-n-Done again! Hangin with Sherman and Taylor a bit more. Felt like we didn't talk enough about the competition, so we kept goin'. Had a bit to say about the great training we get going through the UA. It really is a great deal! It is something you should share with anyone who has any mechanical ability and needs a good career.
This effort is just beginning, we are getting some exposure and getting a lot of support. Here are some of the people who have jumped on the bandwagon and helped us out in getting folks in keeping up with all the work!

This week's episode was a challenge for me! Had a lot come up and I am in a bind, willing to make a deal! It was a struggle but we are Git-n-Done!
Talked to Taylor Estes a bit about his participation in the UA apprentice competition along with a few other things. So grab a beer, shot, Mountain Dew, or whatever you like, and have a quick listen.
Don't forget to share the love! Help us get this out there to be heard and let's get some people in the damn apprenticeship!

Howdy folks! We are putting the time in, trying to get better while entertaining you with this effort. Please remember this is just a hobby with a purpose! The goal is to help people transform their lives by starting a better career in an industry that is so freakin' rewarding.
If you know anyone who might be a fit make sure to share this and get them to go to UA.org to find a local near them and get a hold of the hall in their area so we can get them signed up!
This is total randomness kinda like herding cats! Still a lot of fun though. We are getting into some seriousness though so if that is what you seek, we will have some of that too. Just not this episode!
Working on getting some other avenues opened up, so make sure you check out the website Workinggamepodacst.com. You can find all the episodes, more posts, and one thing that you can't get here, the Tool Box. It is a place where I will be sharing things that have helped me out along the way.

Here we go again! This is the first week I have been able to get all these guys together. As we say in the field, Chaos = Cash, if you listen to this episode it otta be worth somethin'! These guys are all over the place, gonna be like herding cats! Sounds like fun!
This week there is the possibility someone is offended but that's too bad. We are brothers and this is the way. Eddie and Sherman are here to stay as long as they like and we will be having some fun. If it is too much, change the channel.
We do share some good resources on fittin' pipe. Like the Frankland Book and the Blue Book. As mentioned in the podcast, you can get those by clicking the links.
We did get into some of the mischief that goes around on a day to day basis. If you like this kind of shenanigans, the only way to get in on it is to join an apprenticeship through the UA. You can do that here.
We did get through the apprenticeship competition. I have recorded an interview with one of the competitors. Will have that up in two weeks, almost.
Hope you enjoy the show, don't forget to share with anyone you think might be interested in what we do! If you would like to help support the effort, click the link at the bottom of the show notes to support this podcast! Every bit helps!
And a shout out to those who are on board and continuously helping support the trades and what we do to keep our communities safe, healthy, and comfortably operating.

Another episode for all the working stiffs out there! Sometimes it is nice to have a bit of mindless babbling to pass the time. Whether it is during your commute, passing time between work and class, or waiting in anticipation for the senselessness of these characters, we have some more for you.

The other one is just mentioned. It is a well known secret we call Fitter Magic. This is a skill that is passed down from fitter to fitter (plumbers too) and the only way to acquire this trait is to join an apprenticeship through the UA. You can do that here.
I did forget to mention in the recording the apprenticeship competition is being hosted this week at UA Local 440 on the 29th and 30th. This is a time for the most skilled apprentices to show off what they have learned and work their way to earning bragging rights of being the best in the country at what we do.
Also, on the 29th, we are holding an open house at the hall from 3-7 pm. Come check out one of the nicest and newest training facilities in the country. This is where you could learn the skills to get you through a rewarding career in the piping industry. It is located at 1521 Brookville Way, Indianapolis, IN. I will be there, of course, there are door prizes and snacks too! Come on down and join us, check out the new facility, and hell, might even see if you can get an application for the apprenticeship.

I am working on some more and hope to get the UA involved. The hidden agenda is to get folks to apply for the apprenticeship. If you know anyone interested or just a good fit, share this podcast and let them know we are here to help out with that.
Just a quick side note, I was having a conversation with a brother about the Pipefitters Handbook used for pipe fitting along with the blue book. If you don't have them you can get them here.

I want to thank everyone for their help and support for this effort! You are truly helping to protect our future!

Hi, this week is all about inclusion in the workplace. The UA had a convention last year called Trades women build nations. We had the opportunity to talk to Jessica Marler who attended the convention to represent her local and other women in the trade.
I also talked to Ben Pollock who had already started in a different career and decided to jump ship and join the UA. This is a testament that no matter where you are in your career it may be an opportunity for advancement.
You can check out some more info on diversity in the UA at this website.
Give a big shout out to FloSource for their support and the others who help out with promoting this effort, like Reel Pipe and Valve, and UA.org!
If you are interested in a career within the UA, use these resources or contact me at [email protected].
We can use your support too! click the link below to learn how!

Had the opportunity to get with Bo and Austin Reel, some friends of mine who happen to be performing as the best pipe, fitting, and valve distributors in the country. Check out some of the things they have to say about how they got there and where they are going. Living life and performing at your best in this industry is a team effort. It helps to have folks who really care about how things are handled. Especially their partners who are there day in and day out.
This is just one part of many facets of what we do to keep the world we live in safe and operating efficiently to allow you the comforts of a first-world country. Take in some sound, and pass it around! Share with all you can please, We are trying to improve the areas we work and live one lifestyle at a time.

Had a minute with Cody Cross, a first year out of 440 in Indy. Had some good conversation on some of his experience in the apprenticeship so far. One thing that came up is the amount of technology we have found ourselves immersed in. I have touched on some of it here and shared a contact of a friend and brother who has started a business to help you and your company learn how to manage your technology in the construction industry.
Check out fusedvdc.com, Eric Posey and his team are at the cutting edge and leading the way with total station tech, robotic scanning, and BIM/VDC services. see how they can help you! Click fusedvdc.com
