The Chelsea Flower Show has a day to run, but what are the big themes or take-homes that you can try in your garden right now? Screens and water for the hardscaping and yellow in any form at all. For the plants, foxgloves, lupins, peonies, roses, geums (try Geum "Totally Tangerine") and Trollius ("Cheddar" or "New Moon" are perfect additions) as well as box replacements like Ilex crenata.

Paul Taylor became famous because of his unique taste on French life and his acute observations about learning the new culture as an adult; the confusing number of kisses, the passion for bread, the most mind boggling bits of the French language. Catch his show on YouTube.

The students at La Découverte in Mies are back for a second week, this time with lots of questions about their veggie patch. School gardens are a great way to get kids gardening, and the evidence says that kids who garden have better immune systems, eat a healthier and more varied diet and are happier, and the one at La Découverte is perfect - large raised beds, an ideal size for young gardeners to access as well as reducing watering in hot weather.
