A couple of weeks ago was the magnificent spectacle that is Orticolario. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a garden event at the end of September, on Lake Como. It’s held in the 10 hectares of grounds of the Villa Erbe, a 19 th century palace, on the banks of the lake. The views are extraordinary, the plants are fantastic, the people are welcoming, and I love it! I think it’s my favourite garden event in the whole of Europe, completely different to anything else.

If you’re a fan of brass bands, there’s a major concert on this weekend in Geneva, raising money for a great cause.

The official Brass Band of Geneva are at the Victoria Hall this Sunday at 5pm – the concert is absolutely free, but you will be asked to put your hand in your pocket to raise funds to buy musical instruments for an orphanage in India which looks after blind children.

One of the organizers is Jan Powell, Mark spoke to her about the concert – which will be extremely varied.
