June is the month for roses, and this year sees the big Festival des Roses in Estavayer-le-Lac, on the 14th, 15th and 16th of June. For details, go to www.festivaldesroses.ch
My "tried and tested" rose that I plant in clients gardens as well as my own is the lovely "Claire Austin", which I grow as a climber, but is also available as a shrub.
The new rose I'm going to try this year is from Alain Tschanz in Aclens, it's a super-robust Rosa rugosa, so should be happy in most gardens, with fragrant, deep reddish-pink petals, and will be followed by attractive orange-red rose hips to extend the season of interest after the flowers have finished.
